Changes Announced for So You Think You Can Dance

Nigel Lythgoe Twitter

UPDATE: Lythgoe has already announced two of the veterans returning via his Twitter account: Season 4’s Twitch and Season 6’s Kathryn.

For So You Think You Can Dance‘s seventh season, executive producer announced a series of changes that will supposedly freshen up the show a bit…and make it more like Dancing with the Stars?

When the show returns this May, we will no longer be seeing 20 finalists competing for the dance title. The audition process will now whittle the pool down to just 10 names—five men and five women. So does this mean the series will now end a few weeks earlier than usual? No - because we will now only see 1 person eliminated a week.

Like the six previous seasons, the dancers will still perform with another person—just not a fellow competitor. The contestants will now be paired with rotating “All-Star Partners” from SYTYCD‘s past. (Those returning to the series will be revealed in the weeks to come.) Those veterans, like the ones on that ABC program, will not be the focus of the judges from —just the finalists.

Sprint details HTC EVO 4G mobile phone

Sprint HTC EVO 4G

Over at CTIA, just dropped the big announcement that we knew was coming, they will be launching the first 4G smartphone - the HTC EVO 4G - and they will be doing it “this summer.” The EVO 4G runs Android 2.1, and has a gorgeous 480x800 4.3-inch TFT LCD display and is powered by a 1GHz Snapdragon QSD8650 processor and 512MB of RAM. Onboard memory isn’t much to write home about at 1GB, but seriously, that is the only “flaw” we can find with the initial look at this device, if you want to even call it that. I mean, it ships with an 8GB microSD card, and is upgradeable to 32GB. Still, built-in is always nice.

Wanna talk about some of the more exciting stuff? Well, we’ve got an 8 megapixel camera on the back, which can shoot 720p HD video, as well as a 1.3 megapixel front facing camera. You know, the one we’ve been waiting for on the iPhone? Expect to be able to do video chatting on the EVO 4G. Also, expect to be able to view the content stored on it on a larger display, since this thing rocks HDMI out. 802.11b/g Wi-Fi support and an 8GB microSD card round things out, so as you can see, this thing is packed. Oh, and let’s not forget that whole 4G thing.

The HTC EVO 4G will be the first device outside of AT&T that will allow for both voice and data to be used at the same time, thanks to the phone running both EV-DO Rev. A and WiMAX alongside a CDMA antenna. Even cooler, in our opinion, is that this device acts similar to a MiFi or device, where it becomes a mobile hotspot that allows you to share your 4G connection with your other devices wirelessly. However, rather than being limited to five connections, the EVO 4G can give that good 4G Internet lovin’ to 8 devices at once.

Sprint knows that those picking up a 4G device are going to expect a lot more from their connection their phones that are stuck on 3G, and they demo’d a few scenarios to show that they are serious. You can stream high definition content to and from the device, take pictures and stream them anywhere, get instant and live search results with Google Goggles, and much more.

Despite the torrent of info that Sprint provided as it pertained to the HTC EVO 4G, they did neglect to provide a solid release date, as well as the price of both the EVO 4G itself, or the associated 4G data plan.

Drugs and Self-Destruction: The Dark Side of Hollywood

UPDATE: According to the coroner, Corey Haim died as result of natural causes.

Fans woke up Wednesday morning with the sad news that 1980s teen icon Corey Haim . Unfortunately, this headline is not uncommon…nor is the sad story that sums up the once-promising actor’s young life. Perhaps best known as Corey Feldman’s frequent co-star, Corey Haim was once one of the most popular stars in the country. During his heyday of The Lost Boys, License to Drive and Lucas, Haim captivated hearts - and casting directors - with his trademark smirk and level gaze. It’s too bad that, at the same time, substance abuse captivated him.

Alpine partnering with Nokia to integrate smartphones into cars

Nokia Car PDA smartphoneNeed a reason to chuck your Garmin/Tom-Tom, etc. out of your car other than ‘has stupid name and labels me as a poor-driving tourist wherever I go’?  Well wait no longer, avid reader: today Alpine announced a strategic partnership with the Finnish cel phone giant, Nokia, to fully integrate smartphones into car infotainment systems.  While I was surprised that ‘infotainment’ was actually a word, I was more surprised that this type of alliance hasn’t been made sooner.  Not only are these two electronics giants looking to elbow in to the lucrative GPS/Nav market, but they are also bringing a few bells and whistles of their own, namely widgets that can monitor fuel levels and direct you to the nearest and cheapest gas station.  Might as well go ahead and chuck that gas gauge now, Chachi, ‘cause you’re not going to need it anymore; welcome to the future, only 48 years after your grandpa thought he’d have a flying car.

Project Natal launching on October says UK’s Jonathan Ross

Jonathan Ross Project Natal

Long-tenured UK TV host Jonathan Ross was able to give the upcoming Xbox 360 motion gaming add-on, , a try. Aside from the hint of jealousy he left us all with, he also tweeted out an interesting tidbit of information on his Twitter account, which in a nutshell says that he feels that Natal has potential, and that Microsoft has until October to get it right. So the obvious question is, does that imply that Natal gets an October launch (which does fit in with the holiday 2010 launch period)? Or does it mean it has to all be done so they can start packing and shipping devices for launch in early November? I’m sure everything will be made clear in a couple of months at .

Hit the break for a video of Jonathan giving Project Natal a try.

What to expect from Xbox Live on Windows Phone 7

Windows Phone 7 Xbox Live

So last week when Series was introduced to the world, one of the major bulletpoints was the fact that Xbox Live integration would be a big part of the platform, although Microsoft didn’t give too many details. That changed on during a conference call this morning, where Microsoft mobile communications chief Andy Lees gave a bit on insight on hat we can expect to see in the mobile version of Xbox Live:

“We are very excited about the way in which the platform works across screens, so we have commonality of platform across the PC, the Xbox, and the web and the phone. We provide a new set of tools that makes it easy and very fast for people to develop applications for the phone but also in a way that works across screens, and we’ll announce details of that at MIX. You’re also right to point out that a marketplace is included, and the marketplace will work for applications but also for games, so the gaming marketplace for the first time will utilize Xbox Live, and that enables you to create multiplayer, multiscreen games, and the marketplace will facilitate that, so that it will actually work across screens.”

We like it, especially that whole multiplayer, multiscreen aspect, although of course we have to see how it actually looks and feel before making final judgment. We’ll know about when Microsoft’s MIX conference kicks off next month.
