We were pondering the state of the holiday season that seems to be more concerned with what sells than what is really fun, when we discovered these basic wind up toys. Who needs a Whiz Kid or a Hello Kitty Computer when you can have a Kikkerland Chico Bicalho original wind up? Made of steel and plastic, Cosmo Jet turns upside down with no sense of direction and Cranky will liven up your next business meeting by running around with your business card. His latest creation, Le Pinch, was designed with wife Isabella Torquato to create a mechanical inchworm that is still in the prototype stage. Battery Eater Unnecessary, but Cute

Battery EaterWhen your AA batteries haver reached their weakest point, but are not quite out of juice, there is now an alternative to putting them in the nearest trash or seeking out a recycling center. Toss them into the Magnetic Battery Eater and watch his LED eyes blink until the battery’s juice is no more. David Dear created this gadget for Kikkerland which is available for $6.95 at Ship the Web. We are thinking that the Eater could be made in a battery-operated version, but perhaps that concept is in fact a wee bit cannibalistic.
