Motorola Droid X hits Verizon on June 23 [UPDATED]
Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Smartphones, Handhelds, Rumors,
One day before the iPhone 4 arrives to take over the world, Verizon is set to reveal the Motorola Droid X in an official capacity. As you can see from the image above, they aren’t exactly keeping it under wraps—hey, you gotta take all the buzz you can get when you launch one day before the iPhone 4, which has sold over 600,000 units already. So, we will get the full meal deal on June 23 as far as the Droid X goes, but in the meantime we do know that the display on this thing is 4.3-inches in screen size. Definitely very EVO 4G-ish with a display that size. Verizon is also touting the Droid X as having a 720p high definition display, which we are wondering if that’s a mistake. Don’t get us wrong, we’d love to see it, but earlier prototypes had 854x480 screens, and the EVO 4G itself has an 800x480 display. If we find out that the Droid X has a 1080x720 on June 23, we’ll have to bow down to Motorola. This Droid X also has a built-in HDMI port, allowing you to display content on a big screen with the appropriate cable.
We will be keeping an eye out for more Droid X tidbits from now through the 23rd, when everything gets revealed.
UPDATE: Verizon just updated their Droid X teaser, and it now shows “702p Capture.” In other words, it can record 720p HD video, but the screen isn’t HD. So, that’s that!

Zune HD Review: Music discovery at its finest
Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Design, Features, HDTV, Microsoft, Portable Audio / Video,
We’ve had the new Zune HD in our hands for a few weeks, and now that we’ve had the opportunity to thoroughly get to know it at an intimate level, we figured it was time to share - but first things first. We’ve gotta say it. Microsoft has been consistently wowing us over the last few months. Say what you will about Windows 7, Bing, et al, but at the end of the day, they are solid offerings that stack of well against their competitors. Then of course, there’s the Xbox 360, which just received a dashboard overhaul, making it even more useful and feature-rich, and there is even more to come this fall. For us to even be thinking about Microsoft in this way is a huge departure from even just one year ago.
So, all that said, where does the Zune HD fit into all this? Well, as we’ve posted previously, the thing has an OLED 16x9 display, and packs in the NVIDIA Tegra processor. Those two pieces of news has us super-excited to see if this thing would live up to the hype. Does it? Go grab a drink and get comfortable, because we are going to delve right in.

Microsoft LifeCam Cinema Shoots in 720p HD
Posted by Mark Rollins Categories: Accessories, USB, Cameras, PC / Laptop, Peripherals,
I realize that many shoot their own version of EdTV or The Truman Show with their webcams every day, what with this whole YouTube thing we keep hearing about. If that is you, then you may be interested in Microsoft’s LifeCam Cinema, which records in 720p HD at 30 frames per second. The LifeCam Cinema also touts autofocus, 4x digital zoom, noise-canceling microphone, and ClearFrame for “smoother video” (whatever that is.) It will support Windows 7, and will be available for $80 on September 9th.

Bleeding Edge TV 315: Zune HD hands-on Interface Preview
Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Full Episodes, Gizmatic, Features, Handhelds, HDTV, Microsoft, Podcasts, Portable Audio / Video, Videocasts, Videos, Wireless / WiFi,
We were able to spend some quality time with the Zune HD a couple of days ago, and we put together this video walkthrough of the interface on the device. Unfortunately, we weren’t connected to Wi-Fi, so we weren;t able to show web browsing, downloading from the Marketplace, or Social, but this gives you a really good idea of what to expect when you get pick up your Zune HD (available for pre-order now) come September 15th.
Our favorite feature? I’ll probably be using the pinned items on the side quite a bit, especially for the recently synched stuff. Quick access to things like that have been much needed on touch devices. A runner up would have to be the quick scroll in the music browser. Again, it saves you on just quickly swiping a bunch of times, hoping to get to the right spot.
All in all, we’re impressed. Of course, we will have a full Zune HD review when we get our own device. For now, be sure to read up on everything we know about the Zune HD.
Pentax Optio WS80 is nice waterproof camera
Posted by Mark Rollins Categories: Cameras,
For most students, summer ends around the end of August or the beginning of September. Considering all the swimming that can be done before then, I am surprised that Pentax did not release the Optio WS80 a lot sooner. The WS80 is only waterproof for about 5 feet, but it has a 10 megapixel sensor with face detection. It also features a 2.7-inch LCD screen and high definition 720p video recording at 30 frames per second. It is available for purchase for a price of $250.

What Super Mario Galaxy would look like on high definition Wii
Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Adventure, Mods/Hacks, Nintendo, Platformers, Screenshots, Wii,
When Nintendo announced the Wii initially, one of the large collective groans we heard from gamers was in regards to the lack of high definition output. Well, here are a few images to make you lust for that HD Wii even more. The images in our Super Mario Galaxy HD gallery are taken from a Wii emulator that is capable of outputting 720p video. The images look great and all, but I guess Nintendo knows what’s best for us.
