First Look: Teaser Trailer for Jim Cameron’s Avatar


“This is great.” Those are the only three words spoken in this clip for the upcoming release of Avatar. And based on the scenes in this brief trailer, it probably will be.

‘s 3D sci-fi actioner - his first dramatic feature since Titanic - transports us to “Pandora,” where humans are encroaching on land occupied by the Na’vi, a humanoid race. Sam Worthington (Terminator Salvation) plays a paralyzed marine who enters the lush rainforest with help from the Avatar program.

YouTube 3D video testing spotted

I’m sure you have noticed with all the 3D movies in the theaters these days, that 3D is the latest thing—or, at least, the latest returning thing.  Well, it wouldn’t be the first time, and there have been a barrage of products at last January that seem to tell us that 3D is not only back, but it might be here to stay. 

It would appear that YouTube is trying to get its hand in the 3D game.  YouTube is currently testing out the idea of 3D videos by offering a few 3D View Style options.  Granted, contributors will have to purchase special (and often expensive) video cameras in order to display their mundane activities in 3D, but it could be worth it. Remake News: Hong Kong Phooey, The Smurfs and More


Hong Kong Phooey: There’s nothing audiences love more than talking dogs, so why not have them fight crime as well? Alex Zamm (Inspector Gadget 2) has been tapped to direct a live-action/animated version of the classic Hanna-Barbera cartoon. In the original TV program, Scatman Crothers voiced the kung fu fighting title character. When Hong Kong Phooey wasn’t cleaning up a police station as a janitor, he was fighting crime on the streets. The series first debuted in 1974.

Budding filmmakers, there is a new site for you to put up your stuff, the Hyde Tube. Submit live action, animation, 3D and mixed media of no more than 3 minutes under a pseudonym. Their jury will screen to make the final selections. After the process, if an agent or record company likes your stuff, they will contact you. Make the cut and join the best shorts to be shown at screenings in Paris, London and New York with awards to be given out. We have to admit, though, you are going to have some competition.

Toy Story 3 is one of the films I’ve been looking forward to most, and we are just over a year from it’s release. The movie hits theaters on June 18, 2010, and continues the 3D animation releases we’ve been seeing recently. Hit the video above for a cute teaser trailer.


Early Reviews for Pixar’s Up


Although opening night at the is usually dedicated to a French film, the 62nd annual event will be going in an entirely new direction. On May 13, a Disney production is getting the spotlight.

Up, the first animated feature to ever kick off the international event, is Pixar’s first PG-rated film since 2004’s The Incredibles. The comedy tells the story of a retired balloon salesman (voiced by Ed Asner) who decides to carry out his deceased wife’s dream of traveling to South America. Unfortunately, he accidentally takes an 8-year-old Wilderness Explorer along for the ride.

The film, which is also being released in 3-D, was directed by Pete Docter, the same man who helmed Monsters, Inc. and co-wrote . Up doesn’t officially debut until May 29, but you can read a few of the glowing reviews after the jump.

Mitsubishi 3D-Ready Flatscreens

Mitsubishi has announced that it has a new series of 3D-ready flatscreen TVs, however they only work if the content is in “checkerboard display format.” The 737 series comes in 60, 65, 75 and 82-inch models with 1080p display and 120Hz refresh rate. An 837 series will also be available, except in a 60-inch model. While there may not be much 3D content out as yet, it’s still nice to know that they are coming. Pricing starts at $1500.00 and the high end will be $5000.00.

Mitsubishi 3D Touch Panel

3D Touch Panel

Mitsubishi debuted their 3D Touch Panel at the recent Tokyo Interaction 2009. Based on a 5.7-inch 640x480 touchscreen, the panel recognizes both direct contact and finger proximity up to 20mm from the screen, in case you like to snack while you play. The company believes that their device would be great for mobile devices, with the proximity used for bringing up a menu or to control a mouse pointer. They also say that their modifications should not cost a bundle for manufacturers who want to use it.

Box Office Breakdown: Tyler Perry Surprises the Jonas Brothers

Madea Goes to Jail

Back in February 2008, Hannah Montana grossed a record $31.1 million during its first weekend. Now, just over a year later, the Jonas Brothers can say they pulled in less than 1/2 as much.

Although there were high hopes for , the musical trio was unable to match the work of dual personalities. (The movie even played in twice as many screens as the Miley Cyrus version.) As it was, the teen heartthrobs were only the second biggest draw this weekend. The good news? The boys did have the best per screen average of any entry in the Top Ten.
