Converting LP To MP3

Posted by Troy Categories: Music,

Convert LP to MP3I personally don’t own any LPs or EPs, but I might consider converting some of my dad’s albums later on.  I honestly don’t see much in the collection, but some invaluable LPs like a Pryor record are just too good to let them go to waste.  I could buy a new record player, but even with all these technological advances they still haven’t created a portable LP player. This CNet article presents a more rational solution to anyone that wants to preserve and convert their records.

Robot Roach

Gross, yet sadly intriguing.  If any of you try this mod/hack/disgusting feat - let us know, and take pictures.

“Control and Communication in the Animal and the Machine” is a cockroach-controlled mobile robot system. The system uses a living Madagascan hissing cockroach atop a modified trackball to control the three-wheeled robot. Infrared sensors also provide navigation feedback to create a semi-intelligent system, with the cockroach as the CPU.

Forget Me Not PantiesWhile not real, it is certainly an interesting use of technology. The concept behind Forget-Me-Not panties is that they have a built-in GPS, and can detect body temperature and heart rate. All of the data could be viewed and managed remotely, thus allowing you to see if your wife/daughter/mother is getting their freak on when they aren’t supposed to. Check out this “testimonial”:

When my daughter hit puberty I nearly had a heart attack. She started looking like a woman and suddenly she was wearing revealing clothing and staying out late with her friends. Rather than become an over-protective parent , I decided to try forget-me-not panties.

They work wonderfully. My wife and I bought our Sarah several pairs so we can watch her around the clock, and if we see her temperature rising too high, we intervene by calling her cellphone or just picking her up wherever she is.

This is one of the many sites taking part in the Contagious Media project.

Lighter Than Air RobotHere’s another one for all you do-it-yourselfers out there. Lighter than air is an autonomous flying robot. It utilizes blimp design principles, combining a helium filled envelope with 3-channel motor control allowing it to navigate in 3 dimensions. The schematic can be found at the creator’s site. Cool, but I doubt not as flashy as the robot helicopter.

Power Strip LiberatorI sometimes wonder why I can’t come up with gimmicky-yet-functional gadget ideas that might make me rich. Probably my lack of creativity coupled with the fact that I have no desire to do an actual work. I digress. Anyways, check out the Power Strip Liberator. All it really amounts to is a one foot extension cable. The allure here is that you can plug in all of your huge power blocks into any surge protector without having to shuffle around to make room. These things are only $1.79. Genius.

PlusDeck 2

I certainly thought I’d never see this.  We thought we were going forward with audio as a standard.  However, maybe you don’t want to buy Def Leppard or White Snake CD’s because you already have the tape.  Maybe you don’t want to find them on your favorite online music store. Instead, pop in this baby into an empty 5.25” bay and just sit back and carefully watch your DVD/CD-ROM drive get upset as you kick it where the sun don’t shine.  We can’t wait to whip out our Ace of Base tape and begin MP3 conversion.  Sweet retro gods will bless you if you buy it.  Mac users get spared, for now.
