Space Invaders

Ok, this writer is just going to admit it: in addition to goofy USB items and off-kilter (or useful) docks, she has developed an obsession with anything recently retro, waxing nostalgic about doo-dads that remind her of the 70s or 80s.  Case in point: Rockza’s Space Invaders Bag, made of PVC (translation: faux leather), and decorated with rows of the scurrying aliens. Oddly missing are the four protective “shelter blocks” and cannon, but we’ll let it go.  Unfortunately, the bag is only available in Korea for 42,000 Korean Won ($45 USD). But let’s hope the trend comes stateside, as we think a Centipede version would look really cool, in a geeky sort of way.

Geek Speak T-Shirt

For those of you with buds that text or code better than they speak, these are the shirts for them. Cafe Press allows you to buy others’ or design your own and sell shirts, stickers, buttons, coffee mugs, and other items on their site free of charge. They set a base price, you add on a mark-up, and they mail you the commission once a month. Although the site has been around for a while, its users are just now catching on to the fact that the Internet and text messaging sells.

Krusty Demon VansHomer Vans

When will Simpsonmania end? Every other commercial, Fox promo, and site has at least one ka-ching for Matt Groening and crew. We are pleased that in between the Squishees and Krusty battling the BK mascot, we found these anti-Simpson shoes. The Limited Edition Krusty the Demon Vans seem to be so popular that they are only available on eBay, from prices of $127.00 to upwards of $350.00. We did find one pair of Homer in Shattered Glass shoes by the same designer Tony Muñoz for $22.50, unless someone has already snatched them up to resell on eBay for a higher price, too.

Burton Bluetooth Helmet

If you’re into snowboarding (or any extreme sport), we’ve found a gadget bound to make it even more fun. It’s the Burton RED Tantrum G1 Bluetooth Audex, and awfully long name for such a simple concept. It’s basically a helmet that utilizes Motorola techonology, allowing you to receive/make telephone calls or listen to your music player wirelessly. Wear the helmet and jam to Linkin Park while riding a half-pipe—and then seamlessly call your fellow boarders to hook up for a brew later. The helmet’s DJ-style headset is even removable, for when you’re just chillin’ in the ski lodge. Compatible with Bluetooth 1.1 and 1.2 phones, and any iPod, MD, CD or even cassette player! Available in 4 colors for $200 USD.

Shoe PouchAbout a year ago, Nike released the Nike+iPod Sport Kit, which has a built-in pocket to keep your treasure close at hand

foot. Unfortunately, you have to buy the not-so-inexpensive Nike+shoes to go with it. Our kudos to Grantwood Technology who designed a neoprene Shoe Pouch that will work in Reeboks, Keds, New Balance, and many other brands. It matches the sensor alignment, covers it, then comes up and attaches throught the laces. The company claims that it has already saved over $2 1/2 million for its customers. Available in 8 different colors, and at only $6.99 per insert, this definitely makes you want to “Just Do It.”

Wonder Woman Bracelet

Whether you grew up on the now-campy “Wonder Woman” TV series, read the DC comic or just a fan of Diana Prince’s all that-ness, we’ve got something for you. Yes, it’s the Wonder Woman bracelet! While the cuff won’t deflect bullets like Wonder Woman’s did (we assume), it’s a cool-as-hell accessory, bound to elicit smiles and conversations. The bracelet is 6"long, and fully adjustable. Not surprisingly, the cuff is currently on backorder, at $25 USD. Invisible plane not included.

Spoilt Tee Shirt Design

We admit to being a little torn: we abhor spoilers, so we’re feeling a little guilty about loving this t-shirt so much. It’s the attention-grabbing, conversation-starting—and possibly violence-inducing—Spoilt Tee, which blatantly reveals the surprise ending to many popular (and cult) movies, and one TV show. Available in men’s and women’s sizes in black for $15-$17 USD. Pop culture kudos to those who can identify the source of each spoiler—which you’d better know if you wear this shirt. This

pop culture geek

writer got ‘em all except “The villagers sacrifice the policeman.” Wanna know the answers? You can find them, of all places, here.

Pac-Man HeadThere is fanatical, and then there is just downright ugly. The Pac-Man Belt may prove that you are the master of your Atari domain, but the Plush Head will put you in the category with some of those die-hard Wisconsin Cheeseheads. Available at clubNamco, it comes in children’s and yes, even adult sizes for $24.99 and $29.99 respectively, unless you live in Massachusetts, Ohio, or Pennsylvania. We’re not exactly sure why that happens to be the case. Someone told us it had to do with taxes, but we secretly believe they are just not the chomping type.

Time TeeOur latest contribution to animated informal wear collection is the Time Tee, which literally tells the time. Plug 4 AAA batteries (not included) in and hide them into an inner pocket, and the shirt displays an electro-luminescent front panel. Change it to a stop watch and time your server at the local sports bar, count down your lunch hour, or let your jogging partner know how slow they are. It also powers down when you can’t show it off to anyone. The Time Tee comes in sizes medium (38 to 40) and large (40 to 42) and is available at Firebox for $39.95.

(Thanks, Jennifer)
