Backup 3.0.1 addresses file restoration and other issues and is highly recommended for all users of Backup 3.0. Significant areas addressed are:

It appears that some enterprising folks have managed to hack Apple’s Front Row onto Macs other than the new iMac G5.  I do not advocate piracy, but I can say that it was fun to play with on my Power Mac and 20” display! Hopefully, Apple will get the message and update Mac OS X to include Front Row on all Tiger capable machines.  Can we say Universal Dock + Apple Remote + Front Row = Hours and hours of good old fashioned family fun? For those who doubt, TUAW is hosting a great video of Front Row running on a Mac mini.

Man, Apple has been on an iTunes-releasing rampage as of late, haven’t they? Just a week after iTunes 6.0 was released, we have iTunes 6.0.1 available to download:

With iTunes 6.0.1, you can preview, buy, and download over 2,000 videos on the iTunes Music Store and sync your music and purchased videos with iPod to enjoy on the go. To watch purchased videos, you must have Mac OS X 10.3.9 or later.

iTunes 6.0.1 features several stability improvements over iTunes 6.

After purchasing music from the iTunes Music Store with iTunes 6 or later, you will also need to upgrade your other computers that purchase music from the iTunes Music Store to iTunes 6.0.1.

Here at DigitalLife we got to experience some of the cool things already, but eJamming definitely caught our collective eyes when we saw a drummer banging on some MIDI drums.  How is this innovative? Well, he wasn’t alone.  He was jamming with 4 other musicians - but only one of them was actually near him.  Using eJamming’s software, you can actually have real time sessions with MIDI (and soon audio too) via a broadband connection.  Of course, if you want to take it to the next level, you can record your entire MIDI session and export it to your favorite editor such as Pro Tools or Cubase for further editing and mixing.  The bad part is if you’re the guitarist that likes to break amps, they will most likely be your own. Microsoft recently announced the availability of Streets & Trips 2006 with GPS Locator. For hardcore travel or mapping buffs, this is the software to have on hand if Google Maps and Mapquest are too feature-poor for you. The new version features Voice-Prompted directions, which is nice for hands-free operation. What I like most is that the software can be cross-referenced with MSN Virtual Earth. That is sweet. In August, Opera Software launched it’s Opera Mini browser in a limited release - only users of Norway’s TV2 were allowed downloading privledges.  All that could change soon according to Eskil Sivertsen, public relations manager for Opera software.  Is seems that due to the ” fantastic response from content providers, operators, handset manufacturers and end-users worldwide” the software company is hoping to give Opera Mini a worldwide release by the end of 2005.  The Opera Mini browser allows users to view any HTML page from the convienience of their cell phone, allowing users to break away from WAP browsers that limit surfing experiences to WAP only pages.  Michael Gartenberg of Jupiter Research says, “I was able to hit every HTML site I threw at it including heavy lifting sites like the NY Times. This is a really big breakthrough for the mobile space.”  Soon enough, y’all will be able to read content off Gear Live, or even post to the forums, from anywhere your phone gets a signal!

Google has improved its Firefox toolbar and taken it out of beta for it’s official release.  As an improvment to the toobar, users are now able to arrange icons they see fit. They have also added Google Suggest, which shows related search suggestions as you are typing in the Toolbar search box. I can’t remember the last time a Google product actually came out of beta.

Since removing all ads from its browser, Opera Software has seen over one million downloads of its desktop browser in only two days, breaking the previous record set in April when the company released Opera 8.  Jon S. von Tetzchner, CEO of Opera Software says, “The success of our free browser proves the world is ready for a fresh option.  I’m most excited about the hundreds of thousands of new users who have discovered the speed, security and usability of our browser for the first time.” Still, it’s a long way to go to catch up to the ‘Fox.
