New Spider-Man suit

The decision to reboot the Spider-Man film franchise has sent fanboys into a frenzy of questions and excitement - both good and bad. Casting Andrew Garfield seemed questionable, until his Golden Globes nominated performance as Mark Zuckerberg's friend and Facebook business partner, Eduardo Saverin, in The Social Network. Aside from a few casting decisions, no info on the plot or thematic direction of the rebooted Spider-Man has surfaced. Instead, a couple of new images showcasing Garfield donning the Spidey suit hit the internet just a little while ago, and perhaps hold clues as to the direction of the film.

The dark noir look of the image suggests a grittier Spider-Man film. Also, note the scratches on Parker's face and his intense look of determination and/or regret; this could hint at Spidey's inner struggle of balancing power with responsibility after his uncle's murder. The sleekness of the new Spidey suit could also mean the movie will reference Ultimate Spider-Man storylines.

What do you think of the new suit? Does Andrew Garfield do it justice, or should he stick to suing successful internet companies? Let us know what you think below.

netflix remote control

Netflix today announced that streaming from Watch Instantly movies on your TV will be even simpler, as they've struck deals with several device makers including Dynex, Haier, Memorex, Panasonic, Samsung, Sharp, Sony, and Toshiba that will see a dedicated Netflix button added to the remote control. Starting this spring, new devices will apparently come with a remote that features the Netflix logo prominently, giving one-button access to the service. This will include some Blu-ray disc players and Internet connected TVs. According to the company's Chief Product Officer: "No more turning on the TV, going to a home screen and searching for the Netflix icon.  With the Netflix one-click remote, it's simply a matter of pushing the Netflix button to instantly watch any of the vast selection of TV shows and movies available to stream from Netflix." The company has been working steadily to increase its reach, and is now available on almost any connected device one can think of.

Lion King 3D Blu-rayDisney is definitely betting big on this whole 3D Blu-ray stuff, as we just got word that they're preparing to release at least 15 of their films in the home 3D format, including The Lion King and Beauty and the Beast, a first for both films. Other notable titles include Tron: Legacy, Tangled, Bolt, Meet The Robinsons, The Nightmare Before Christmas, G-Force, and Chicken Little. These join recent Disney 3D releases like Alice in Wonderland, A Christmas Carol, and Step Up 3D. In addition to the 3D movie itself, the discs will also feature 3D menus and previews as well. No specific dates have been given for any of the titles.

Sears Logo

Looks like all the giants of the superstore world are looking to own a piece of territory in the online movie market. Just ask WalMart who recently purchased Vudu, a non-subscription service for buying and renting movies that stream online.

Sears and Kmart are partnering with RoxioNow on their service, called Alphaline Entertainment, which is going to be available on a multitude of devices. Whether Xbox 360, PS3, or Wii will want to be home to yet another movie service that does pretty much the same thing as all the others isn't known yet. What is known is that 'Alphaline Entertainment' is looking to succeed against an already established king of the online movie world where many have failed. And it doesn't help that the name doesn't roll off the tongue as easily as 'Netflix'.

Do you think Alphaline Entertainment stands a chance? Let us know.

top bittorrent searches

At the end of the year, search engines publish their lists of most search terms, indicating what the trend online is. From a more underground source however, TorrentFreak has compiled their list of top 100 search terms on BitTorrent for 2010. They got their search data from KickassTorrents, one of the top 10 BitTorrent sites, with a few hundred of million searches per year. The top search term ended up being "Inception", followed by "Iron Man 2", "2010" and "xxx". All 100 top terms are shown on their site, but it's clear what people go to BitTorrent sites for. Most of the words are movie titles, followed by porn keywords. Notably, Microsoft Windows 7 picked up the 20th spot.

beats pro review

The Beats Pro by Dr. Dre. at $399.95 (direct) is a serious pair of headphones designed for the modern DJ. The ear cups flip backwards to free one ear, the cable is detachable, and jacks on both ear cups act not only as inputs, but as outputs to send audio to a friend's headphones. The Beats Pro sounds excellent—there's plenty of bass, but the high frequencies are accurately reproduced, as well. The potential deal breaker for standard users and DJs alike: they're heavy and not comfortable when worn for long periods.

Design
Weighing in at nearly a pound (15.2 ounces), the Beats Pro comes in black or white models that each feature healthy doses of brushed metal on the ear cups and headband. The lowercase Beats logo is emblazoned in red on each ear, and the interior of the headband and ear cups is a cushioned black material. There's a 3.5mm jack at the bottom of each ear cup—it doubles as both an input (from your sound source) or an output to send audio to another pair of headphones. The connection for other headphones, however, is loose and could easily detach if you move around (this is because the jacks both have a twist-to-secure feature that only seems to work with the included cable). The cable itself is the signature Beats red, thick, and coiled at the bottom. Not only is a ¼-inch adapter included, but it comes fastened to the coil so you never have to go looking for it; just snap it on to the 3.5mm tip whenever you need it. Also included with the headphones: a protective pouch and a cleaning cloth with "advanced Aegis Microbe Shield technology" so microbes will never come between you and your music.

Silent Hill is returning to theaters, but this time with a Michael J. Bassett penned script instead of Roger Avary. The flick will be based off one of the more popular Silent Hill games, Silent Hill 3, revolving around Heather Mason and her search for her father.

The official synopsis of the film reads: "For years, Heather Mason and her father have been on the run, always one step ahead of dangerous forces that she doesn't fully understand. Now on the eve of her 18th birthday, plagued by terrifying nightmares and the disappearance of her father, Heather discovers she's not who she thinks she is. The revelation leads her deeper into a demonic world that threatens to trap her in Silent Hill forever."

Also, this Silent Hill film looks to take advantage of the 3D craze, and inject a little more stereoscopic into your life (as if you needed anymore).
