GeekDesk Max review

If we had to guess, we'd bet you're probably sitting down right now. The problem is that sitting down for extended periods of time, all day every day, may be killing us. You may have heard of stand-up desks, and maybe even know someone who works in an office where this is an option. They don't choose these just to be different--the goal is to keep your metabolism, and muscle electrical activity performing optimally. This is where GeekDesk comes in. The company sells two different models of desks that allow the user to stand or sit--the best of both worlds. We received the GeekDesk Max for review, and it just so happens that this feature would turn out to be more than a simple Gear Live gadget review. Sure, sitting down may be killing us, but my story isn't about life expectancy, but rather bad posture and what I referred to as "my pinch" for at least 6 months. Read on for more on that, along with our full GeekDesk Max review.

Vinamor review

The Vinamor wine aerator, the concept of Gary DeJohn, was featured on ABC's Shark Tank with an impressive demo that showcased just how well the product can bring out all the flavors of a just-opened bottle of wine. The Vinamor has a stainless steel filter and a glass sphere that work together to aerate your wine. It sits atop your wine glass, and as you pour wine through the filter, it's exposed to the large surface area of the glass sphere, which in turn softens tannins and brings out flavor while the filter catches and sediment that may be present. Or, at least, that's the promise. How well does the $40 Vinamor actually perform? Join us in our full Vinamor review for our thoughts.

Coalesse Hosu

We're looking forward to when we'll be able to lounge on one of these Coalesse Hosu chairs. Designed by Patricia Urquiola to create a comforting worksapce, the Hosu can be purchased in either a 36-inch single- or 64-inch double-seat convertible configuration with chaise foldout, or you can choose a single fixed design. It's got side and rear storage pockets as well as cord pass-through, getting the wires out of your way. That lumbar pillow you see in the image is also included.

The Coalesse Hosu will be available in October in a selection of six different colors. Pricing has not yet been announced.

Nomiku sous-vide immersion cooker

Sous-vide cooking allows you to make super tender, juice, mouth-watering food that's full of flavor after being cooked slowly over a long period of time in a bath of warm water. The thing is, it's been cost-prohibitive to the average home cook. The Nomiku immersion cooker aims to change all that. Already a successful Kickstarter project, Nomiku is set to make immersion-style sous-vide cooking available to the masses when it launches in December of this year for $299. Rather than providing an expensive, limited-space bath, Nomiku clips on to any pot or pan that you want to use for cooking. Check out the video of the product to see how it works, after the break.

Nest Apple Store

Remember the Nest Learning Thermostat? The previously hard-to-find household gadget regulates the temperature of your home and sets up a pattern based on your usage, and even allows you to monitor and change the temperature of your home on the fly from anywhere by using your smartphone, tablet, or even a web browser. After being in short supply at launch, the Nest is now available at the Apple Store, which provides yet another avenue to get your hands on one. FitBit Aria Wifi scale

Back at CES, the peeps at FitBit announced the FitBit Aria Wi-Fi scale, which aims to compete with the Withings scale we've been using for a couple of years now. The Aria is fairly similar, although it's about $30 cheaper than the Withing model ($130 vs $160,) and it syncs up with the FitBit web portal, which shows you a bunch of charts and data as it pertains to your weight patterns, as well as info from the FitBit and FitBit Ultra tracker (if you happen to use one of those.) The two are definitely meant to act as companions, providing you a nice, deep snapshot of your health and fitness profile. Check out the video interview we did with FitBit at CES, where we got a first look at the Aria scale, after the jump.

You can pick up the FitBit Aria now.

UK-based vacuum cleaner manufacturer Dyson recently held a competition to see which of its engineers could design the fastest racecar using just spare vacuum cleaner parts. Just like the vacuum clears, there were some very creative car ideas. Some worked well, while others were novel in concept only. Check out the video above to see the geekiest race to take place so far this year.

IKEA Uppleva HDTV

IKEA is coming to the rescue of wives everywhere who are fed up with the endless mess of tangled wires in the living room with its Uppleva HDTV. Yes, IKEA is making it's own HDTV, and it's pretty wonderful. First, the tech: 1080p LED display, Wi-Fi-ready, 400Hz, FM radio, DIVX HD, with three USB inputs and four HDMI inputs as well. So, what makes this television so special? It's the fact that the actual display part is just that - a display. All of the goods are built into the surrounding furniture, which is also part of Uppleva. For example, the television also has a Blu-ray player built-in - but it's located beneath the monitor, in the console area. All the wiring is built into the furnite, so it's not visible.

You can add in your own components, of course, and the wiring is handled the same way, allowing everything to be neat and tidy. Also cool? There is a vast array of colors and designs. Uppleva is modular, so you can build it out in any way you see fit. Expect it to launch in the fall for 6,500 Swedish crowns (that's $960 to those of us in the USA.) Wanna get a peek at how it works? Check out the video after the break.
