Some folks over at the CheapAssGamer forums are letting the world know that they have been able to find Nintendo DS Lite units on store shelves at Wal-Mart and Target stores. The DS Lite is still scheduled to launch on June 11, and you can expect GameStop and EBGames to honor that date - however, larger stores like Target often miss those minor details when they get their shipments. Now is the time to head over to your local major retailer if you want to try and grab an early DS Lite. If you find one, let us know where in the comments.

TextPayMeWow, is this service long overdue or what? TextPayMe is a PayPal-like service that allows you to send and receive money by simply using SMS over your mobile device. Even better, they are currently giving anyone who signs up a free $5.00 deposit into their TextPayMe account. Here are a few of the suggestions they offer for using the service:

  • Split restaurant bills on the spot
  • Settle your roommate’s rent and utility bill from wherever
  • Pitch in real money for a split gift rather than an IOU

We will definitely be giving this one a spin. Having the ability to do this from wherever you are using your mobile phone works a lot better than having to sign in to Paypal from where we stand. If you sign up soon, you can qualify to be in the running to win a free Xbox 360. An Xbox 360, plus an additional five bucks for free? What’s not to like?

Woot Hard Drive

Just a quick heads up for those of you who appreciate a good deal. Today’s Woot! is a 250 GB Western Digital Caviar drive, selling for just $50 USD. Not too shabby, if we may say so ourselves. I almost bought one, when I realized that it wasn’t a SATA drive, and that it only has a 2 MB cache. Oh, and it’s refurbished. Still, $50 for 250 GB of storage is a rarity.

Plantronics DSP400Holy smokes, Amazon has lost their minds.  Amazon is currently selling the Plantronics DSP-400 headset for $40.94 with free shipping!  I personally own this headset and I can vouch for the fact that it is absolutely kick-ass.  If you use Skype or any VoIP service, or maybe do a little podcasting, this headset is definitely a must-have, and at these prices, it’s insane not to go grab one.  I remember this headset costing upwards $120+ not even a year ago.  Grab ‘em while they’re hot!

If you have worked in an enterprise environment, have probably heard about this company called VMware.  For those of you new to VMware, these guys make a product that allows you to run multiple servers from ONE box, all done virtually.  It’s what’s referred to as “virtualization” and is the ultimate in geekdom for an enterprise.  More importantly, it can really make an administrators life a lot easier if implemented correctly, and save the company a boat load.

Cnet has published an article referencing a rumor that VMware will be releasing one of their core products into the wild for FREE next week.  This is HUGE news.  The idea behind this is that since VMware is now seeing some stiff competition heading their way, they are going to cut it off at the pass by using the “crack head” effect.  In short, hook on a free sample, and sell them on the big products.  Sounds like a logical enough plan.  If this pans out to be true, we could be in for some interesting times in the IT world.  The only missing link in VMware’s product line is being able to run OS X, if they can accomplish that, their stock is going to skyrocket.

iMac Price DropAs of this morning, Apple slashed the price of its 20-inch 2.1GHz PowerPC-based iMac.  Pricing for the G5 based iMac dropped $199 from $1699 to $1499.  Pricing remains the same on the 17” iMac model.  If you really want to grab a bargain basement price on either of these machines, head over to Amazon where you can pick up the 20” G5 iMac for $1349.99 or the 17” model for $1174.99.  Although the new Intel based iMacs are smokin’ hot machines, the G5 based models are still more than adequate for most average users needs.  Don’t miss out on this great deal!

Best Buy Rebates If you are an electronics collector like we are, you know how expensive this hobby can be.  Every payday you look at your wallet or purse and wonder what you can afford.  So what do you do when you get to the store?  Look for the specials, see what’s on sale, and sometimes you come across the rebate sale.  You sit there and wonder whether or not your willing to shell out the 30-40 dollars that you’ll eventually get back in 6-8 weeks.  Is it worth it?  Apparently not to Best Buy.

Rebates offered by the manufacturers are being done away with at the big box retailer in lieu of instant savings.  There will be less reading of the fine print on prices.  This is all due to “strong vendor partnerships.”  Translation: Best Buy is getting good prices for their merchandise and can afford to let them slide for cheaper every once in a while.
