This is an entry from our 2006 Holiday Gift Guide. Check it out for suggestions on what to buy your loved, liked, and hated ones this holiday season!

Motorola Q

If you are looking for a full-fledged smartphone that lacks bulk, look the way of the Motorola Q. The Q packs in Bluetooth, a 1.3-megapoxel camera, and a QWERTY keyboard into a freaking thin 4.3 x 2.5 x 0.5-inch handset. The Motorola Q weighs just 4.1 ounces, so carrying this phone around is very comfy. The Q also sports a scroll wheel on the side, reminding us of the BlackBerry mainstay, and it works nicely on the Windows Mobile 5 OS. The screen is a 2.4-inch 320x240 display, but we wish the font size could be bumped down a few notches to fit more text without having to scroll. The Q can also do multimedia, which can be access on Verizon’s EV-DO network, or locally by packing your content onto a miniSD card.

You can watch our full Motorola Q video review for more information.

Price: $300 with two-year contract

BlackBerry Pearl 8100

BlackBerry has gone mainstream with the BlackBerry Pearl 8100. Much more than a business-level messaging device, the Pearl 8100 packs in a 1.3-megapixel camera, vibrant 320x240 display, and MP3 support. The abridged QWERTY keypad allows you to type messages quicker than you would using standard T9, and also keeps the phone as thin as any other cell phone out there, with dimensions of 4.2 x 2 x 0.6-inches. The BlackBerry Pearl 8100 throws away the scroll wheel, and instead uses the Pearl-esque scroll ball in the center of the device. Throw in EDGE support, and you have a winner.

Price: $199 with two-year contract

T-Mobile Dash

Looks like my boy John over at CrunchGear got his hands on one of the new T-Mobile Dash phones, and is reporting back with his impressions of the unit. The Dash is the new Moto Q-esque phone by HTC, which runs Windows Mobile 5.0 and has a full QWERTY keyboard. While John’s lack of love for Windows Mobile 5.0 may seem unfair at first, we can totally sympathize. That said, CrunchGear seems to think the phone is an all around good experience, WinMo 5.0 notwithstanding. If you are looking for a consumer-level phone ($199 with 2-year contract) that does more than just play fancy ringtones, this one might be worth a look if you are on T-Mobile (or looking to switch.)

JVC HD Everio

Here at Gear Live, we are totally into JVC’s Everio camcorder line of handhelds. At a recent press event at IFA in Berlin, they provided a sneak peek into the future, showing off a consumer model Everio that records in “Full HD” at 1920x1080 resolution. The camera will record to an internal hard drive like other Everio cameras, and will sport a 3-CCD chip along with the option to record at 50 or 60 Hz for worldwide HD video compatibility. The camera is still unnamed for now, and pricing details have yet to be announced. Expect to see this one drop in Spring 2007.

Sansa c200Sandisk has unveiled a new Sansa c200 series entry level mp3 player to supersede the c100 series released earlier this year.  The new Sandisk C-series is 1.3” x 3.1” x 0.6” in size and weighs in at 1.51oz including the battery.  The full color display measures 1.4” diagonal and displays album, artist and song info, as well as digital photos. Supported audio formats include MP3, WMA and protected WMA DRM, as well as other Audible formats. The player uses a standard USB 2.0 interface for transfers.

Sprint Treo 700wx

Sprint has finally unleashed the Treo 700wx today, which we have all but been waiting for over the past few weeks. The Treo 700wx sports EV-DO/1xRTT, 128MB NVRAM, 240x240 touchscreen, XScale 312MHz processor, a full QWERTY keyboard, Bluetooth support, and the standard 1.3 megapixel camera. It runs Windows Mobile 5.0 Pocket PC edition, and is, you know, a Treo. The 700wx sports double the RAM of the Treo 700w on Verizon, but everything else is pretty much in line. Of course, Sprint has had the Treo 700p available for a while now - but if you just gotta have that Pocket PC goodness, now is your chance if you are on Sprint.

TabletWhile we’re on the subject of all things froggish, can it really be 25 years since the hatching of Frogger? In honor of the event, PDP (Performance Designed Products) and Konami have teamed up to create the “Tablet”, a portable gaming system that will be available to North American retailers in September. Housed in a round shell, the Tablet contains 25 8-bit classic games at a SRP of $29.99. Available in four colors, the system features a 2.0” backlit TFT LCD display screen.
Paul Chen, VP of Licensing and Content at PDP claims, “Additional 8-bit games on the ‘Tablet’ offer even more retro fun for older gamers who played these games decades ago, along with new gamers who will be introduced to them for the first time.”

For an additional $9.99, you can purchase an A/V cable for plug ‘n play capabilities on your TV. This kit also includes a protective case so that our favorite amphibian remains dust free and ready dodge cars and gators when you are. For a sneakpeak at other games included, check out the interactive website: http://www.vgpocket.com/.

StarFox CommandNintendo’s senior marketing VP George Harrison has announced that their Wi-Fi connection has surpassed the 2 million mark in just nine months of operation. He also claims that the service has logged more than 70 million individual game sessions.

“Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection continues to set the standard for easy, fun and safe wireless gaming,” says Harrison. “Our hand-held leadership will continue unabated with today’s launch of StarFox Command.”

Just in case you have forgotten, Fox McCloud has been around the Lylat system since the 90’s, fighting the Lylar armada with some rather gregarious and chatty compadres in what is essentially a shoot-em-up-by-plane game. StarFox Command for Nintendo DS was released today at an MSRP of $29.95 and is rated E10+.
