Named the LifeDrive Mobile Manager, this model is PalmOne’s first PDA to have a hard drive. The PDA also features a 320x480 touchscreen, with the ability to transition from a landscape to portrait mode. It’s also coupled with a fairly quick 416MHz Intel XScale processor and includes extras such as built-in Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, and SD-IO. Notable features of the 4GB hard drive device are its ability to act as a USB drive, drag-and-drop capability, and the ability to keep the transferred file structure intact.

Global Gadget Magazine I4U, Gear Live, and Playfeed Announce Exclusive E3 Podcast And Video Coverage

Windows Mobile 2005 Becomes Windows Mobile 5.0

Microsoft has finally announced Windows Mobile 5.0, a.k.a. Magneto, at the 2005 Microsoft Mobile & Embedded DevCon. The software looks fantastic - I am most stoked about the upgraded network support with 3G optimization. Other features include a new mobile office suite (Word, PowerPoint, Excel), a one-handed navigation scheme, improved WiFi, improved BlueTooth, persistent memory to ensure your data will remain safe in the even of battery failure, video calling, push-to-talk calling, external drive support, and USB 2.0. This will all go into the next generation of Windows Mobile Smartphones and handheld devices.

The PSP is one heck of a little game system that promises almost Star Trek-like wireless multi-player gaming. You can have a Wireless LAN gaming session with friends without having to carry a desktop PC, string Ethernet all over some dank basement, or worry about some loser running an aim-bot. But alas one of the problems of many PSP gamers is that not that many of one’s friends have invested their two hundred and fifty bucks for a PSP of their very own. How cool would it be to throw your own public PSP wireless LAN party?

7-Inch Tablet PC Prototype at WinHec

It’s obvious that our gadgets are going to continue to get smaller, as ultraportability is what we are all about these days. Yesterday at WinHec, Bill Gates showed off a prototype of a new tablet PC which was only 7 inches diagonal. I am not too sure about this one, as tablet PC’s haven’t really taken off, and other ultraportable tiny PC’s haven’t really made a large dent in the market either. The thought behind this is that Microsoft thinks it would be nice to have a portable PC that would be able to act as a music/video player, email device, Internet browser, and also control different aspects of the home while including integrated WiFi and Bluetooth.

Don’t get too exicted, there is nothing concrete about this. That being said, how awesome would this be? The digital camera add-on is a nice touch as well. A 6 GB iPod mini/digital camera hybrid would certainly sell nicely.

Yet another cool thing you can do using the PSP web browser hack. If you point your browser to http://mob.e-messenger.net/mobile/ you are able to sign in to your MSN Messenger account. This allows you to use the PSP to instant message your MSN contacts, no downloads needed.

Although I am sure not many people will be jumping all over it, as PDA’s seem to be slowly going the way of the dodo, the Tungsten will be seeing an upgrade in the E2. While many have been waiting for the LifeDrive to be officially announced, the Tungsten E2 makes its debut amongst minimal fanfare. In a day where WiFi is pretty much a necessity, it is a glaring omission on the E2. However, it is supposed to have a more vibrant 320x320 screen, and Bluetooth is there as well.

Until someone decides to actually manufacture and sell a car mount for the Playstation Portable, you can make one of your very own using an Intec desktop stand, Velcro and some spare time. A PSP411 reader shared his experienced in making his car mount, providing pictures and video. You will need to connect an audio cable from the PSP to the aux port of your stereo to get the best sound – or use an FM transmitter.

Ever wanted to transfer some files from your friend’s USB flash drive to yours, but didn’t have a computer around? With the SyncBoxII from Macally, you will never have that problem again. The handheld device allows you to transfer files from devices that use USB ports to other USB devices. This is great alternative to Apple’s iPod Camera Connector since it’s not iPod-specific. Now for the money question: Can it support iPod to iPod (or other hard drive based digital audio players) music transfers? No word yet, but time will tell. The MSRP is set at $49.95, and the web site states the SyncBoxII will be “coming soon”.
