Readius Is Diminutive

Another reader has arrived to compete with the Kindle. The Dutch company Polymer Vision spun off from Philips and has been working for 2 years on its Readius which will hit stores sometime this year. The device is about the size of 2 credit cards, weighs about as much as a cell phone, and folds up when not in use. With its 5-inch display, you can read news, blogs, audio books, view podcasts, and catch up on your e-mail. The Readius can also make phone calls and connect online with cellphone networks, has a super-battery life, and should cost about the same as a high-end cell phone. The company also has plans to add a keypad in the future.

AT&T Caters to Lovers

Altech Expands Audio Systems for iPhones

Altech Lansing has come up with the T612 Digital Audio System for iPhone. The device will alert you to incoming calls and will pause so that you can answer. When your call is complete, simply redock and the music continues. The T612 features neodymium speakers and XdB bass-enhancement technology, and is also compatible with new-gen iPods. An aux-in jack provides other PMP access. A wireless remote allows power, track adjustments, bass and treble controls, song selection, play/pause, and more. Look for its debut this February at retailers for $199.95.

MacWorld 2008: iPhone 1.1.3 update is real

This morning, Steve Jobs demoed the iPhone 1.1.3 firmware, which looked strangely similar to the one we showed you guys a few weeks back that many were calling fake. Well as it turns out, the leak was real, but we did miss a few things, such as chapter options and language compatibility in iPod mode. The 1.1.3 firmware also features lyrics support for music. Rounding out the features are all the things we showed you in our iPhone 1.1.3 video - Web clips (web bookmarks on home screen), Maps with location finder, Home Screen customization, and SMS multiple people.

We don’t often indulge in designer goods, but this is the CES and we want to be fair. The website alone was so impressive that we just had to mention it. First off, Finland’s golla bags are a “collection, ” not an assortment, that changes bi-annually. They describe themselves as a blend of “lifestyle, fashion, and technology.” We didn’t check, but we are pretty sure Paris must have one of their mobile, musical, digi, laptop bags and sleeves, or backbags. Look at this! It’s a cotton, polyester, spandex sock! Finally, don’t even hunt around the site for a price. Once again, if you have to ask… By the way, ever since someone stole our flipVideo cover, we have been using an old Nike sock to carry it around. Price: $00.00. Usefulness: priceless.

Windows Mobile 7 leaked: Microsoft’s mobile savior?

The Inside Microsoft blog has scored an exclusive first look at Windows Mobile 7, and boy is it hot. Taking some user interface cues from the iPhone as well as throwing some truely unique and possibly revolutionary ideas the whole package looks slick, usable, and very much ‘the future’. The OS features a multi-touch interface similar to the Microsoft Surface table, and additionally features gesture based actions allowing a user to shake or rotate the phone to perform on-screen operations.
Windows Mobile 7 looks to be leaps and bounds ahead of the currently released Windows Mobile 6 and 6.1 OS’s. This kind of software revolution may just be the edge Microsoft needs to keep their market share in the mobile space and help give them an edge in the upcoming generation of portable internet and media centric devices.

Even in the age of high-capacity SSD‘s Samsung belives in the hard drive based microdrive. The newly announced A1 features 30GB and 40GB capacities, a 3600rpm rotation speed, 2MB buffer memory, and a greatly increased shock resistance of 650G’s (650 times the gravity of a stationary object on earth).
As for how they managed to cram 40GB of storage onto a 1” platter, well, that just boggles the minds of the editors here at Gear Live. We expect to see a bevy of new handhelds, digital audio players, and cameras with built in storage with room to grow coming in 2008.

Microvision Unveils Mini-Projector

Microvision has decided to debut its new SHOW at next week’s CES. The small plug-and-play color projector connects to your laptop, cell phone, PMP, or other mobile device and can create a WVGA (848 X 480 pixel) screen that can reach up to 100-inches. Microvision also wants to sell its PicoP technology to other companies. Just imagine being able to show up at your next business meeting, pointing your cell phone at the wall, and wowing the boss.
