We know that jamming is illegal, still we have to give kudos to hacker/researcher “Lady Ada” at MIT’s Media Lab for allowing us to defend our personal spaces with what appears to be a pack of cigarettes. The Wave Bubble features a rechargeable internal lithium-battery for up to 2 hours of jamming two bands in a cell phone or 4 hours in a single band such as a GPS, cordless phone, or WiFi. Three AAA batteries can also be utilized. The Bubble’s range is about a 20 ft. radius, if you have a decent antenna, and its output is .1W to .3W.

Lady Ada claims that neither the RF jammer nor its specs will ever be available due to FCC regs, and doesn’t recommend that build your own if you are an amateur technology geek. Thanks for the info, Lady Ada. We can take it from here.

The music server is capable of storing store approximately 5000 songs in MP3, WAV, or WMA. It also offers an optional RDS/TMC tuner and satellite radio. Set to come out next month, the MSRP should be around $1,100.00.

GPS takes a new turn with these shoes invented by Sayo Isaac Daniel. Referred to as Quantum Satellite Technology, Daniel explains that you can forget your watch or cell phone, but not your shoes. He first got involved with the idea when his own 8 year-old son was missing from school. Fortunately, his son was found and so was a new idea from an entrepreneurial father who was already involved in footwear.

The technology consists of a 2 x 3-inch computer inserted in the shoe which is weather-proof, shock-proof, and can survive up to 300 lbs. of human. It even has a panic button in case of an emergency. The shoes will be available next month in a limited quantity online for $325-$350 and accessible to the general public by March.

Ford, in cooperation with Microsoft, will be releasing its Sync, an in-car infotainment and navigational system, at next week’s NAIAS in Detroit and the upcoming CES in Las Vegas. The Bluetooth gadget allows you to download and play music, talk by cell phone, read e-mail, and can direct you to the least expensive and nearest gas station in your area with 3D maps. Sync will make its debut in Ford’s Focus and Five Hundred sedans this year, and will become available to all Fords by 2008. Gear Live will endeavor to keep you in touch with its coming out parties.

It looks like Sony may have learned from it’s mistakes based on it’s first foray into the personal navigation market and have come back swinging for a second round of competition with the NV-U71. What features did Sony throw into this one to make us so impressed? Well, for starters, the Sony NV-U71 has a nifty Gesture Command interface that allows you to make Plam Graffitti-ish type gestures with your finger or stylus right on the screen. Different gestures tell the GPS to do different things - for example, give it an upside-down V shape, and it will navigate your right back to your front door. No need to take your eyes off the road and go through pesky menus. Of course, it also is small and has a 3D map interface featuring a birds-eye view, but they all have that nowadays, don’t they?
