Best Tech of 2004

Last week, we asked you to let us know what you felt were the best tech items in a few key categories. You responded, letting us know what you felt outshined the rest as far as audio, home entertainment, video games, and cell phones. One person even walked away with a free Logitech MX1000 Laser Cordless Mouse courtesy of PrizeCube (congrats b_culbert!). You even gave us what you felt was the best item of the year. Full results after the jump.

If there is one thing I have learned, it’s that universal remotes are never truly universal. You can go through hours and hours of setup, and there will be that one little detail that makes it remain undone. Then I heard about the Logitech Harmony 688 remote. Thre is barely any configuration here, as the remote connects via USB through your PC to an online remote code database. After just 48 hours, I have seen the light. Simply put, the Harmony 688 is the absolute best remote control I have had the pleasure to use. Ever. Find out why after the jump.

It’s the end of the year, and you are gonna see these kinds of stories all over the place. Did you expect anything less from us? 2004 saw some pretty cool tech pieces come to the market, and we want to know what you thought were the best overall. Now, to keep this from getting chaotic, we split it up into a few key categories. We want you to tell us what you thought the Best of 2004 was in the following five categories:

1) Best Audio Gear
2) Best Home Entertainment Gear
3) Best Video Game Gear
4) Best Cell Phone Gear
5) Gear of the Year 2004

Simply post a comment listing what product you think deserve the top honors in the above categories. We will compile the results and report back next week. As if you needed any more incentive, you earn an entry into this week’s Logitech MX1000 Laser Cordless Mouse giveaway.

PSP Glamour ShotSony’s small wonder is coming soon to the States.  Already a huge success at it’s Japanese launch earlier this month, the system is so hot that many gamers have resorted to importing it at extravagant prices.  Here at Gear Live we’re a little more patient, (okay, maybe just a little more broke) but that hasn’t kept us from finding out all we could about the handheld.  Some of the things we’ll share about the PSP you may already know, while others features may be surprising.  Whatever the case, be sure you read on to make sure you have the inside scoop on one of the biggest releases early next year.

Upgrade Money
You know that itch I'm talking about. The "fresh new gear" itch. It burns a hole in your wallet, and completely diminishes your self-control. It's that shiny new cell your best friend just showed off to you, or maybe it's that cool new digital camera with twice the megs of your existing one, and it's smaller to boot. Everyday we at Gear Live see new gear, and the temptation to purchase one of our review items is always present, even if the cash isn't. Today, Gear Live asks you to think about when exactly is it time to upgrade your old gear? What are your options, and when should you actually just keep what you already have?
