Earlier today Apple released OS X El Capitan Developer Beta 5. Developers who are already running Yosemite can get the 1.34GB update through the Mac App Store, while those who are looking to install it for the first time will need to log in to the Apple Developer Portal. As for the rest of the world, OS X El Cap is set to launch this fall, focusing on tightening up OS X and crushing nagging bugs, while also introducing features like split view apps, expanded Spotlight, an expanded Notes app, performance improvements, and more to Apple's desktop operating system. Those interested in beta testing can head over to the Apple beta website.

Apple has just released the new iPhone Lightning Dock, an accessory that will allow you to easily charge an Lightning port-equipped iPhone from a vertical base. The device supports the newest iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus, as well as the iPhone 5, iPhone 5c, and iPhone 5s. The iPod touch 5th generation is also compatible. As you can see in the image above, this is simply a Lightning connected that is rising up out of the base, which leads us to believe that this should easily support future models as well.
The iPhone Lightning Dock is powered by your own Lightnint to USB cable, and also has a 3.5mm headphone port, allowing you to listen to your iPhone audio through headphones while it is docked.
You can pick up the iPhone Lightning Dock now for $39.
If you're finding that the battery in your iPhone isn't quite lasting for as long as you'd like it to, then it would be a good idea to consider picking up a battery case. We've always been fans of Mophie battery cases here at Gear Live, and if you're in the market for one, you might want to stop by your local AT&T retail location. Between now and May 28th, AT&T is offering a $10 discount on all Mophie battery cases, which results in your getting a top-notch external battery at a rare discount. Remember, this is in retail stores, so you'll wanna use the AT&T store finder to find the most convenient location near you.
Fast Company has an adaptation of one of the stories from Becoming Steve Jobs: The Evolution of a Reckless Upstart Into a Revolutionary Leader, which releases one week from today on March 24, which you can pre-order now. Here's a short excerpt:
"Somebody that’s selfish," Cook continues, "doesn’t reply like that. I mean, here’s a guy, he’s dying, he’s very close to death because of his liver issue, and here’s someone healthy offering a way out. I said, ‘Steve, I’m perfectly healthy, I’ve been checked out. Here’s the medical report. I can do this and I’m not putting myself at risk, I’ll be fine.’ And he doesn’t think about it. It was not, ‘Are you sure you want to do this?’ It was not, ‘I’ll think about it.’ It was not, ‘Oh, the condition I’m in . . .’ It was, ‘No, I’m not doing that!’ He kind of popped up in bed and said that. And this was during a time when things were just terrible. Steve only yelled at me four or five times during the 13 years I knew him, and this was one of them.
You can head on over to Fast Company to read the full story. Definitely worth your time.

Apple published a page that shows off a bunch of third-party apps that various developers are working on for the Apple Watch. As you can see, there are a lot of big name companies on board, like Target, American Airlines, Nike, MLB, Instagram, Starwood Hotels, and many more. Fitness, travel, shopping, fun, social networking, and even entertainment apps are all included on the page.
The more you wear Apple Watch, the more you’ll realize just how personal a device it is. Because with so many different apps available, you can choose the ones that are most relevant to you, and create a customized experience. There are already apps for airlines, department stores, social networks, and more that take advantage of the unique opportunities the wrist brings. And with new apps being built for Apple Watch every day, this is just the beginning.
Our guess is that the vast majority of these apps will be ready on day one, when the Apple Watch is released on April 24. See anything that surprises you on this list?
Apple’s Spring Forward event is where the company unveiled the brand new MacBook with 12-inch Retina display. We’ve already gone through the specs and major changes, but one other subtle change is that this is the first Apple notebook that will be available in a gold hue. Actually, the MacBook will come in silver, gold, and space gray—the same three colors that you’ll find the iPhone and iPad come in as well, but the gold is particularly intriguing, as it's not a color you see on the everyday notebook computer. Take a look at the images for a glimpse of the new style. You can buy the new MacBook starting April 10th.
Following its Spring Forward Apple Watch event, Apple has released iOS 8.2 publicly. The update brings about minor fixes, along with one big feature: Apple Watch support. In order to use the Apple Watch, you’ll need to be running iOS 8.2 on your iPhone 5, 5s, 5c, 6, or 6 Plus. After installing the update, you’ll find the new Apple Watch app on your home screen, which is what you will use to download apps and manage settings for your Apple Watch, should you pick one up.
iOS 8.3 will follow soon, with new diverse emoji and wireless CarPlay support. In the meantime, you can download iOS 8.2 now.
Apple has announced that the Apple Watch will get about 18 hours of battery life per charge, and that it will charge from empty to 80% in about 90 minutes, or to 100% in about two-and-a-half hours. That's long enough for most anybody, but if you find yourself needing to charge in the midde of the day, you should know about the Magnetic Charging Cable for the Apple Watch, which makes it super easy to charge. As you can see in the image above, the Magnetic Charging Cable snaps to the rear side of the Apple Watch, making it easy to apply. The Apple Watch itself will include one of these chargers, and if you need an extra, you can buy a 2 meter Magnetic Charging Cable for $39, or a shorter (and cheaper) 1 meter Magnetic Charging Cable for $29.

We've already given you the complete breakdown on the Apple Watch pricing, but what if you want to buy additional watch bands or other accessories from Apple? We've got the pricing for that as well, and depending on how fashionable you want to be, pricing can get pretty steep:
- Sport Band: $49
- Leather Loop: $149
- Classic Buckle: $149
- Milanese Loop: $149
- Modern Buckle Leather: $249
- Stainless steel Link Bracelet: $449
The prices listed would obviously be for purchasing an extra band for your Apple Watch, separate from what it already comes with. The question that remains now is, are you looking to pick up an extra band for your Apple Watch in order to switch it up for style or activity?
