The Birth of The iRack
Posted by Sheila Franklin Categories: Apple, Home Entertainment, Misc. Tech, Videos
MADtv has done it again. If you were busy watching the last rerun of SNL with Drew Barrymore, then you missed Michael MacDonald’s clever impersonation of Steve Jobs and his latest creation, the iRack. More amusing (if that is possible) than their last outing, this skit takes a clever stab at American politics. Even funnier than this clip was the outtake shown over the closing credits that cracked up both the audience and the cast. We don’t want to spoil the great iEnding, so iEnjoy the performance now and try to catch that bit when the iEpisode repeats.

Apple just pushed out an update to their Backup software, which they highly recommend for all Backup 3 users. On our MacBook Pro, the download was 5.5 MB, while on our Mac Pro it weighed in at 6.3 MB. Not bad at all, especially with the promise of backup and restore with external drives, better memory management, and improved restores of bundled file types. Apple, as always, has provided full details on the Backup 3 support page, linked below.

iFixit Mac and iPod Parts & Upgrades

The following is a ReviewMe Sponsored Post:
I am sure many of us have experienced the horror (or heartache, if you want to look at it that way) of a dropped, smashed, or otherwise broken gadget. The folks at iFixit aim to soften the blow somewhat, at least if your destroyed gadget is an iPod or Mac computer. They sell just about every part imaginable for almost all iPods that have ever been released, from the 1st generation model all the way up to the newest iPod 5th generation. In fact, the only iPod parts they don’t sell are for the second generation iPod shuffle. We expect that will change soon enough.

Ms. Pacman Comes to iPod
Posted by Sheila Franklin Categories: Apple, Handhelds, Portable Audio / Video, Video Games
What’s better than a game of Pacman? A game of Ms. Pacman, of course. The Namco classic is celebrating its 25th anniversary and will soon be available from the iTunes store for your iPod. Last fall the original was released, and we are thinking that Apple is making yet another attempt to compete with the PSP which, with a modicum of hacking, already boasts the ability to carry many of the classic games, such as those produced by Atari. Find Ms. Pacman at the iTunes store at the decently inexpensive price of $5.99.

iPhone Says Hello During Academy Awards
Posted by Sheila Franklin Categories: Apple, Cell Phones, GPS, Internet, Misc. Tech, Portable Audio / Video
iPhone’s first commercial was released during Sunday’s Academy Awards, featuring the likes of Lucille Ball, Clark Gable, Robert Redford, Betty Rubble, and Bogey. Apple has cleverly managed to reveal absolutely nothing about their product in an entertaining kind of way. When we first saw it, we were hoping that they might release the iPhone with ringtones of one of our fave actors. Think what those around you would do if your iPhone chimed out Eastwood’s, “Make my day, Punk” or DeNiro’s “You talking to me?” in the middle of a crowded room. The iPhone is expected to make its debut this June.

Apple TV Launch Delayed
Posted by Sheila Franklin Categories: Apple, Corporate News, Home Entertainment, Internet, Movies, Portable Audio / Video

Apple has decided to postpone the launch of Apple TV until mid-March because, as spokesperson Lynn Fox explains, “Wrapping up Apple TV is taking a few weeks longer than we projected.”
The gadget is designed to move digital content from a computer to a TV via a HDMI port or component video and audio ports. The company is counting on profits from those with puny monitors and gimongous plasma screens to download movies from its iTunes. Originally due out this month, the unit will retail for $299.00 and is compatible with both Mac and PC. We suppose that if they need to “wrap it up” a while longer, we can wait to unwrap it.

Mexican Airline Volaris Renting 5G iPods To Fliers
Posted by Lolita Beckwith Categories: Apple, Corporate News, Music, Portable Audio / Video, Transportation
The iPod’s bid for world domination continues at a frenetic pace. Last week we reported how major airlines will be offering iPod seat connectivity by mid-year, but low-cost Mexican airline Volaris leap-frogged the competition this month by purchasing a stash of 30 GB 5G iPods and loaning them to fliers for free. After the test-run, the customers can rent the players for only 50 pesos ($5 USD). The devices are pre-loaded with music and Mexican programming, which will be expanded to include U.S. sitcoms and additional music genres. We’e thinking an ingenious someone at Volaris is getting a promotion right about now…

Now you can pimp a ride for your iPod. Place it in this mini-Escalade and its lights flash, its tires spin, and it will move to the music. The Corgi iCar is equipped with speakers to play your tunes, or put it in dance mode and watch it shimmy to its own music. Additionally, it works with any music source such as an MP3 player, CD player, Walkman, or radio. Available in black or white, the musical SUV carries a MSRP of $29.99, and can be purchased online at Amazon or Target.
