CES 2007: Zune Wireless: In The Wild!

Here at Gear Live we got our Zune‘s at the official launch in November of 2006, and have been eagerly awaiting our first “in the wild” sighting of another Zune to try the wireless features outside of a “test scenario.”
Now don’t get us wrong, we love the Zune, but market adoption has been rather slow - but today in the SeaTac airport on our way to CES we encountered “ALIENSPAWNER” and had a chance to transfer a few tracks back and forth. Hit the jump for a picture of him with our Zune.

As you can see in the photo above, the Zune did indeed add a DRM license for “3 day or 3 play” to the file - even though some of the sent files were not from the Zune Marketplace. The fact that the Zune is overburdened with DRM aside, the wireless feature was easy to use and adds a level of functionality to portable media players that is currently not available in the market leading iPod.

Congratulations for spotting another Zune, not an easy task
I’d like to say Zune doesn’t add DRM to the received tracks. The receiveing Zune just marks the files for 3 days or 3 plays. The file itself is not altered.
Maybe this is not of interest to the final user, but it would be illegal to alter CC licensed tracks.
