Xbox 360 Banned Ad: Video

Share

Posted by Frank Bisono Categories: Microsoft, Video Games

Ok, so this post highlight part of the problem in corporate America - obessive, dilusional, stupidity by lawyers.  Apparently this video was deemed too objectionable by Microsoft attorneys and was pulled.  Give me a break, I was laughing so hard I almost lost control of some bodily functions.  It’s a shame this didn’t air…but you can see it right here.

Wow, slow *and* wrong.  Not only did this story hit just about every other blog on teh intarwebs way back in November, but it wasn’t banned at all.  Look for the story on any *reputable* site, and you’ll discover that the ad is simply part of a viral marketing scheme.

Unless, GearLive, you can refer us to a source that has the actual info regarding the ban, and not just a bunch of conjecture?

Very funny indeed, although i cant see why microsofts lawyers didnt like it. I think its as bit of harmless fun and funny at that lol You dont know where i could download a copy from do you?

Andy,

Wow….please excuse us for not being uber cool and knowing the day this video was released on the “intarweb” - whatever that is.  Yes, this news was broken back in November by Adjab here:

http://www.adjab.com/2005/11/22/the-xbox-360-ad-youve-been-waiting-for/

However, after extensive searching for your “reputable” news site (which you conveniently fail to mention), we found that the MAJORITY of sites reporting on this happen to also have picked it up within the past week, NOT back in November.  Example:

http://www.theinquirer.net/?article=29235

http://www.ifilm.com/ifilmdetail/2684604?htv=12

http://www.techshout.com/gaming/2006/25/microsoft-bans-super-cool-xbox-360-video-ad/

So just exactly what blog are your reading or referring to that has this corrected information?  Again, after an exhaustive search, I have yet to find a single source that claims this ad being pulled by MSFT was false.  The only “conjectured” comments here seem to be your own.  Either way, the video rocked, it was cool as hell, and made people laugh.  I don’t see the problem.

Frankie-boy:

First off, “intarweb” is an intentional misspelling of “internet”—much as “pr0n” is to “porn”—which you’d probably know if you’d pull your head out once in a while.

Second, proof?  Sure.  Though it shouldn’t be the reader’s job to correct the media, I’ll do it anyway.  I would certainly consider Joystiq to be a far more reputable source than GearLive at this point, so I’ll point you to their article which, yes, also ran two months ago:

http://www.joystiq.com/2005/11/30/gaming-media-snookered-by-viral-360-ad/

Andy,

Yes, my head has been known to be up my ass occasionally, but I assure you, it was quite out in the open for this post.  I was just goofin with you on your spelling man, guess that didn’t come across just right.

One correction though - I don’t think anyone has declared bloggers as “media” as of yet, and as such, I don’t pretend to be a journalist.  I am an enthusiast that happens to write about things that make me tick.  Pretty much like most other bloggers out there I suspect.  Although Joystiq is a great site, it’s a BLOG - not MEDIA.  As such, I would rank them only slightly more “reputable” than a typical blog, only because they belong to a large network.  When you tell me your source is the New York Times, CNN, or even CNET, that is what I call a reputable source.  And even those big boys have gotten things wrong or reported them late.

So in short…chill bro.  Take the site for what it is, just another source of information to feed your tech fix.  Remember that most of us don’t live on the net 24/7 (although it seems like it) and have other responsibilities.  This is a HOBBY for most of us, not a job (at least not a full time one).  Sometimes we’ll report things that are out of date, but are still pretty darn cool.  If you beat us to the headline…then jump to the next post. Heck, if you are that up to speed, maybe drop us a tip or two and we’ll even give you kudos for it.

Peace…

Frank,
I applaud your site!  I have recently discovered it and love it!  Nice job!

Ignore the idiots, dude…

Hahaha - thanks Cappy!  Glad you like the site!  No amount of insults can stop us from giving you your gear fix.  grin

Hey Frank,
Great site, I just recently discovered it and find myself coming back!  anyway, banned, pulled, not aired at all, who cares…still one of the funniest “commercials” I’ve ever seen.  still lookin for a place to download though.  I’m a manager at a game store and just saw the commercial for the first time a few days ago and direct everyone I know here to see it…microsoft still doesn’t seize to amaze me in their hijinks.

keep up the good work man
