X vs. XP Compares OS X and Windows XP

DescriptionWhile our article on why Apple makes a one buttoned mouse continues to stir controversy, we figured we would fill you in on a site that compares the two operating systems that are most prominent. X vs. XP puts Mac OS X and Windows XP Pro/Home side by side in a huge multitude of categories ranging from usability to appearance to video playback. As you read the comparisons,  you get a nice understanding for what goes into operating system design. In the end, Mac OS X comes out on top - but Windows XP certainly beats its Mac counterpart in quite a few categories.

This semester I am studying Systems Programing - so I get a good look at all the hard work that goes into producing an operating system. Not an easy task - however, the hardware archticture takes a very big role on how the OS will handle certain things. Overall it is really the programer’s job to decide how to take advantage of certain things. Obviously these two companies can learn somethings from each other and come up with a better design that will benefit both systems. For now, as a user, we need to really think of what type of system we will use and need to use. Of course, having one of each is always an alternative if you can afford it.

xp is so uggggggly

w00t for mac os x!

I’ve never used a Mac system, but they’re really good looking, and for some comments from friends and other people, they’re great for Video Edition and all stuff about multimedia creation, so, even when I’m using a PC, I’ll stay with Apple…

Have fun !!!  ΒΆ: D

lmao, Macs suck ass. No compatibily, no games, stupid OS whos users are to dumb to use windows properly so decide to goto “windows lite” (mac osx) because the real thing is to hard for the poor noobs :(

It’s the apps.  Final Cut Pro is awesome.  Photoshop runs fine on either OS, as does everything else Adobe.  Dreamweaver’s a wash.  QuickBooks on a Mac is a pathetic joke.  So is the Palm Desktop.  iCal’s kind of cool (sort of).  I still haven’t found a decent tabbed text editor for Mac (essential for any kind of development, IMHO), while there are dozens of great freeware editors available for PC.  The Apple developers’ tools are awesome, rockin’ and free.  Irfanview and Picasa are reason enough to own a PC if you work with a lot of graphic images on a regular basis.  AppleScript is reason enough to own a Mac if you bother to learn how to use it.  iTunes is great—get it for your PC today.

Like I said, it’s the apps.

Oh, and Entourage is NOT the Mac equivalent of Outlook.  It’s the equivalent of nearly-worthless garbage.  Safari’s pretty nice, though…

I find it interesting how the Mac users seem to be a far more polite bunch of guys.  I rarely (if ever) have heard a Mac user comment on their PC counterparts as ‘poor noobs’ (whatever that may be!)  And the general insults seem to come from the Windows camp.
My conclusion is Mac users know they have the jewels, and the Windows users are trying, desperately to convince themselves they have the ultimate platform.
Oh well, the debate goes on, and will until Unix takes over! jk.

mac os , linux and windows , the mac os and linux are ten times more secure than the windows , due to the inherent security of unix , yes windows has greater access to games etc . the letdown is the security aspect of xp were microsoft patches several holes while leaving many more , for example sp2 failed to close many holes and opened a number more while closing the ones it was supposed to . also how many virus’s and worms are there for mac or linux , how many for windows . id say the reason for this is windows market share .
