Windows Vista = New Monitors?

VistaAccording to a US tech consultant, Stephen Speicher, Microsoft’s next windows iteration could mean buying new monitors in order to play some protected digital content. Apparently only monitors supporting HDCP, High-Bandwidth Digital Content Protection, will be able to play those videos, which is rare to see on a monitor today. Is this really the direction we are moving towards? A world of computing where the only way to use a computer to its fullest is if you have hardware a software developer says you can use? I’m sure there will be a work around this. There always is for any type of security they try to implement. I hate what they are trying to do though.

<southern_minister>Now is the time to switch to Linux! The evil forces of M$ are strengthening their icy grip, and you must come into the light!</southern_minister>

Yea, it really is pretty simple. Just dump windows and switch to another OS.

I was thinking this is probably going to be the thing that pushes me to change to a Linux distro. Linux isn’t bad its just the fact that I’m so used to Windows.

well, all i can say is that i tried suse linux 9 workstation and i liked it. easy to setup and install, just as simple as windows. If MS pushes this, I am definitely switching.

You guys don’t HAVE to upgrade to Vista once the final version FINALLY hits the market. You could just stick to Windows XP or whatever version of Windows you are currently running.  raspberry

Well if this is the case, this will be the first time Since WinMe that I haven’t upgraded my OS. WinXP does what its supposed to, and with the fancy window dressing on top of server2003 which makes up the heart of Vista just isn’t that appealing if MS dictates that I cannot play HDCP content on my 2000FP or 2405 LCD monitors.
