Un-Creative Zen Software

Share

Creative Zen Micro Software Recently I purchased a 5GB Zen Micro, made by Creative Labs - the same company that practically birthed the sound card industry.  While not an avid fan of Apple’s iPod, I have to appreciate the simplicity of it’s software.  Create playlists, download music, etc. and just plug it in and you’re done.

The complete opposite exists for the Zen Micro. You plug it in, load up the software, and slowly sort its contents using the “Zen Micro Media Explorer” or “Creative Mediasource.”  The player itself is incredibly simple and user-friendly.  An adjustable touchpad, simple interface, numerous ways to sort music, and customizable menus.

The same can’t be said for their software.  Slow, tedious, and just plain inefficient are words I use to describe either program you can use for the Zen Micro.  I only criticize because I know they should be able to do better than this.  Take the Nomad Explorer for instance, it has far more features and is faster and easier to use than Creative’s software.  I love the player, but Creative needs to step up their game if they want to seriously compete with the iPod lines.

the itunes is pretty inefficient too, its a nag.

but for my ipod i use a third party program.

ephpod

http://www.ephpod.com/

its simple and to the point if you strictly want to load music and its really fast, and also able to download news feeds.

perhaps you can look into third party zen micro software.

nah… the software is fast and reliable and it is the best software ever, ipods software is garbage creative are KNOWN for their good software.
your pc is just rubbish

No, you’re quite right. Creatives software bites the big one. I’ve been looking for an alternative software myself, to no avail.

Having both a 40GB Zen and a 20GB iPod, hardware wise they’re quite comparable, but the interface software is miles apart unforunately.

Let me know if you find anything - knightthrasher (at) gmail (dot) com. Thanks!

An alternative for Creative software is Notmad explorer… unfortunately its not free though. http://www.redchairsoftware.com/notmad/

I’ve used sveta audio with my zen micro from Creative . It’s pleasant and featurefull!

Hey, I second Red Chair Software’s software for both the Zen Micro and now the iPod Nano. It allows you to manage the music using a rediculously simple Windows Explorer type interface.

hey peoplz..i recenty bought a zen micro 5 gig off some1 and he sold it 2 me really cheap but it has no battery and no software cd, ive been looking for ages around the internet for the software but i cant find any sites that actually have it, wud any1 in here know where i can get it from???, or can any1 plz send the software too my email address cuz thatl realli help, btw any1 who replies reply 2 my email cuz i dont know this site and i mite not be able 2 find it again lol, thnx anywayz..

Well, I’d posted before about the Redchair software above, and now I’ve replaced that Creative Nomad Zen Xtra with an iPod Nano. Best. Deal. Ever.

Get on the ball someday, Creative.

I had my Zen Micro for a YEAR before I actually started using it.  I use Windows Media Player to upload music and I couldn’t be happier with it.

Now I want the video version….

plaze arabic or farsi suported for careative zen vesion w

Just flash your Zen Micro with latest Play For Sure firmware from Creative and you dont have to use ANY creative software anymore.

WinXP (with WMP10) detects it as external drive and you can directly copy folders of music on it. Very handy if you keep your music library organized, not so much if its mess of varying ID3 tags.

I hate CREATIVE software it screwed my XP twice. Customer support says: Not possible.

I hate iTune too hence I am using a free third party software for my iPod.

I use both iPod and ZEN:M no difference for me ... well not 100% the same, they do their job though.

Play a video an listen a music must be a pleasure and not screwing up your PC to get into your player.

In windows I just use Winamp to manage the music in my Zen Micro e it works perfectly.
If I need to connect it to my Mac, I just use XNJB (get it here http://freeapps4mac.blogspot.com/2009/01/xnjb.html).

When I wrote this article WMP and the other software weren’t that great.

Now WMP works fairly well with anything.  I was using it for a while with an iAudio 5 and a this Zen Micro.  I’m a big fan of MediaMonkey too.
