Bronze Steve Jobs statue coming to Graphisoft Park
A fan of aluminum and glass in life, former Apple CEO Steve Jobs is scheduled to be memorialized with bronze, in death. Hungarian software company Graphisoft is planning to unveil a bronze statue of Jobs on Dec. 21 as both a tribute to Jobs's life at Apple and for his support of Graphisoft itself during the 1980s.
"Apple gave us cash and computers at a time when Graphisoft was a young company with very limited resources; the technology represented by those computers was not even available in our part of the world," reads a statement on Graphisoft Park's Web site. "Even more valuable, Apple introduced us to its worldwide distribution network, which we rely upon to this day."
While Jobs, the innovator, constantly pushed Apple engineers to design smaller and smarter, Hungarian sculptor Erno Toth has built the bronze tribute statue at a slightly larger-than-life height of around six fee, five inches. Steve Jobs, the statue, will weigh approximately 485 pounds once complete.
Although he'll be missing his trademark denim-and-black color scheme due to the bronzing, Jobs will nevertheless appear as if he's wearing his iconic blue jeans and mock turtleneck getup. And his pose? Jobs will take an active stance, holding a smartphone in his hand and looking as if he's about to deliver yet another reason why someone should pick up that-which-he-just-unveiled.
According to Toth, a memorial plaque accompanying the statue is designed in the shape of an iPad – a homage to Jobs's "attractive" designs, said Toth – and it will feature one of the Apple co-founder's more famous quotes: "The only way to do great work is to love what you do."
Jobs's final resting place – as a statue – will be in Budapest's Graphisoft Park, a business complex that counts Microsoft, Canon, and SAP among its tenants.
"The working environment at Graphisoft Park embodies the spirit of Steve Jobs, which strives for excellence in every detail," reads Graphisoft Park's statement. "Our built environment aims to inspire and promote this passion for quality in the talented people who work here. Graphisoft Park is indeed a fitting location for a statue commemorating Steve Jobs and his legacy."
