Sony Walkman Plays DVDs

Sony DVD Walkman

Sony has taken a new approach with the introduction of the D-VE7000S.  This new device is able to play MP3s off of CD-R/CD-RW discs - no big feat. However, it can also play MP3s off of DVD-R/RWs - we don’t have to point out that not very many portable DVD players can do this.  While the price has come down on MP3-CD players, a single layer DVD can hold up to 4.3GB of data.  This certainly sets the stage for a CD wallet full of 4.3GB DVDs.  It should be interesting to see if a company is willing to create a market for MP3 DVDs. The device also ships with a dock that serves not only to recharge the Walkman, but also as a portable set of speakers.  As usual, this seems like too little too late from Sony, as the market is already saturated with better devices that present digital media in more efficient and elegant ways.
