Send Us Your Optimus Keyboard Questions! We Are Interviewing Art Lebedev

Optimus

So, back in July we were the first to report on the Optimus OLED keyboard. After we posted it, everyone and their mother picked it up - just check out the press clippings area on the Optimus site (notice - we are the earliest!). This is the keyboard that took the Internet by storm. In just a few days, the precursor to the Optimus Keyboard will be unveiled - that being the Optimus Mini Three.

We will be chatting with Art Lebedev, the designer of the Optimus keyboard, and wanted to be sure to get in as many of your questions as possible. If there is anything you would like to know about Optimus Keyboard, the Mini Three, or Lebedev Studios itself - let us know here.

Forum Discussion

Will the drivers be open source? Linux support? Will images, mappings, etc be stored on an internal flash chip, or per-computer? Will the keyboard 'light up'? Will there be a (hardware or software) based option to turn this off? Are you considering making a compact model? (Without hotkeys and keypad) Will the final model have a standard return key, or the large one shown in press images?

- will there be a "natural" (curved) keyboard as well? (please say yes :))

Will there be pre built in themes for popular games like HL2 or CS? Will there be a place for people to make themes and upload them so other people can use them?

OLED has been documented as actually rotting over time, due to its organic component. How is that prevented on this keyboard? If it isn't, what's the estimated lifespan of the keycap screens?

Mac support? Why the Optimus Mini Three? Since it probably will be USB connected, will it be implemented with a USB hub? How far has the developement come? Since his company is based in Russia, any ideas how it will be distributed to the rest of the world? How will he overcome the patents, since someone filed the idea before him? Are images on the individual OLEDs saved within the keyboard or on the computer? would be a pain in the ass to boot up with an unlabeled keyboard
