Reports of Motorola Droids Not Sending MMS
Update: It looks like we’ve found the culprit - How to fix the Motorola DROID MMS bug.
It seems to be few and far between at this point, but stemming from an unfortunate first-hand series of events, we’ve investigated and found a few unhappy Verizon Wireless Motorola Droid customers out there who are experiencing an annoying problem: MMS’ are being sent and being rejected with the error message: “You have entered an invalid address.”
The problem seems to be intermittent and with no discernable pattern. Reports show customers who are inflicted with the problem are unable to send to certain numbers but are able to send to others. Our first-hand experience involved attempting to send pictures to a quarter of the address book before giving up and calling tech support. Oddly enough, the first successful picture message sent on this particular Droid went to the guy from Verizon’s Wireless Data Technical Support team who was helping us to fix the problem. We were able to receive MMS from the numbers we tried, but failed receiving from another of Verizon’s Customer Support reps.
Posts on Android’s and Motorola’s support forums found that there was no workaround yet, but some of those who swapped out for a new Droid had no problems with the new phone.
Is anyone else having this problem? Verizon, Motorola, and Google definitely have not spoken up yet, so we don’t know how many people are calling about the problem, but there are a few out there. For all we know, it could be a small glitch. Drop a comment and let us know.

No problems at all with MMS…...I´m able to send / receive with my Droid.

The only problem I had was I couldnt get a 3g signal to set up my g mail account. It turned out to be the anti scratch pieces for the screen. I called verizon and they told me to take it off and it worked fine.

I have the Eris… and when I try to send a pic it says the file is too big… on every pic. Been researching how to fix it and keep coming up short. x_x

This is not true. I have seen other places that have reported selling out of the store within the first few hours. And the Droid is an amazing device. Don’t get me wrong, the iPhone is of course amazing. But this writes like the iPhone has NEVER had issues or something. There may just be a bad batch out there if new phones can be swapped with no more issues.

Yes, I can confirm that none of my Droids (I have two) is able to send MMS to each other or my brother’s iPhone. It seems that during the send process I get the “wait” circle and nothing goes through. Also the 3G icon changes to G. I will have to call tech support later to see if they have a solution to this!!! It is annoying at this point…

I’m able to send pictures, video and text via MMS but not audio files - there’s simply no options to attach an audio file to the message.

I used the MMS feature on all my other PLAIN cell phones. I was able to send a pic as well as attaching an audio file in the same message. Cant someone come up with an APP? This is the ONLY drawback for me with this phone. Otherwise I love it. I am real close to going back to an ordinary phone.

This is odd, but I was having trouble sending MMS messages, and typed in the problem into google, just as your page arrived, two of my MMS messages I have attempted sending for 2 solid days sent. It was like the hiccup magically fixed. However, will this hiccup remain, I have yet to see. If it does, I see myself calling to complain right away!

I’m having a problem sending Pic via messaging, thing is I’ve already sent this pic a couple days ago. Everything else about my Droid seems fine. Thank for any help.

I’m having trouble sometimes with MMS. The screen to send the photo will come up, but when I hit send it force closes and every time I try to reopen my messaging application it force closes until I restart the phone. Probably going to see if they’ll swap my phone out for a new one, been having a few other constant force close problems, too. Other than that the phone is amazing!!

No one has received any of the pictures I’ve tried to send via MMS taken with the Droid phone. I bought mine the first day, last one they had.

i am having the same problem. it rejects the picture for some numbers but not others. annoying.

I am having the same issue. Message not sent “invalid address”. I can send to the majority of phone numbers, but not my fiance. She’s the one person I send most pictures to. What gives!

I find it a huge drawback that a sound file cannot be sent via MMS. Some people said it can be attached via the phone’s email client, however I have found this not to be true. Handcent also has the option in there, however it tells you the file has exceeded the size. Some of those are files I’ve had since the original enV which have sent just fine on that and every phone I had since. I love the device but this may be the one issue that has me return it, after everything else… I don’t like not having basic functions.

I have the Droid and I’m having problems just sending a text message to one phone number. I’ve been to Verizon and they have no idea why. Some days it works and others it doesn’t. I’m thinking about swapping for a new Droid. Anyone else with regular texting issues?

I’m on second Droid and still can’t send MMS. I can forward MMS that I receive, but cannot send pics/vids that I take on my phone. I love my Droid but hate all the texting issues I’m having. Also occasionally when texting to friend w iPhone he gets same msg. multiple times. Yesterday for about 3 hrs neither of us received each others texts’. I got his starting about 4 hours after sent. Don’t know if that issue has to do w my phone or his?
I don’t get invalid address msg. my pics and vids just wont send, it will say failed or not sent I think.
Anybody else w same problems?

I had the same problem as everyone else with sending messages, I jus download a app call handsent sms, its free and it compresses the pictures before you send them. A lot better than the app it come with. Try it and it will save you the headache.

i had this same problem where the picture message would not go through. i called verizon and problem was fixed all you have to do is a factory reset on the droid took care of the problem.

Same thing for me. They did a quick reset and I was good to go. Other than that it is running awesome. I love the the Dolphin browser app with pinch and zoom. I hear more of that is to come on other apps.

I have the droid and there is one person in my contacts that I text a lot. After having the phone for a few days, I was unable to send him texts anymore. It kept saying “message not sent”. He could text me and I know that my other friends could text him. Even when we both had good signal, it did not work and his service is verizon.
After all the frustration, and finding out that there was a problem with the camera, I brought the phone into the store. They told me it was a manufacturing problem and they replaced the phone. The camera worked great and I was then able to text my friend. This was less than two weeks ago.
Today, on my new phone, I was texting my friend for a few hours, when the texts just stopped going through. I know there is absolutely nothing wrong with his phone. And I’m curious as to why this has happened on TWO phones.

I have a Droid and my cousin also has a Droid. Last week we had our Droids setting next to each other. A friend of mine sent a pic message to my number and my cousin received the pic message on her Droid. There is no way that my friend accidently sent it to my cousin becuase they do not know each other and he did not have her number. Has anyone else had this issue?

My Friend has the Blackberry Storm, and For some reason she is the only one out of all my friends who cant send me text messages. Like I send her them just fine and when she sends me one I never got it. Even when we tried sitting right next to each other, sucks when the girl you like cant even text you lol. Back to calling unless I find a solution.

That worked! Thank you SO much! I was only ever able to send ONE pic w/o Handcent.

Dear jen, you need to reduce your cameras megapixels which is usually in the setting section when the camera is on.

Ya I have the droid and can’t sendtext messages to a few people. I called verizon last night and I gave tem my account info and they said they will have to reserch the account to find any problem. The verizon rep also told me that it is the account that is probly giving me problems not the droid its self.

I have the same problem sending messages to one person. I can’t send messages to start the conversation but I can send em back if she texts me first.

yeah me and my husband just bought us the droid, now after 2 weeks having it and playing around with, I have noticed I can’t send MMS. Picture MMS are fine to send but if I want to send a song from my MP3 to one of my contacts, it wont let me do it .
It told me to get the app super mms, which I installed . it did send out MMS but they went somewhere and not to the receiptients.
Anybody any Idea’s???
Thank you Dolores

I can’t send Texts period. At all… I hit send and it, with 5 seconds, Send message was not sent. It stopped working 2 days ago and i went to verizon, and called #611 option 3 and no one could figure it. They even did a hard reset on my phone. Didn’t work. Having a new one shipped to me.

I have to say I haven’t had any problems with my Motorola Droid, no errors when sending MMS. But like you said it appears to be few and far between.

I was testing out the Droid X in Verizon today. I took a pic of myself and sent it via mms to my Droid Motorola. My Motorola received it. But then I realized I can’t do a thing with that pic. There are no options available to forward it, to send via email, share etc. What’s up with that? Anyone have same problem.

First off, I had a chance to use and review the new DROID X recently and I have to say it is a marked improvement over any smart phone that I have seen to date. It is feature packed and everything appears to work well. The Google Mobile Services integration is seamless.
If you are looking to upgrade, you should seriously consider the Droid X. If you want to keep you current Droid (and I probably would if I had made the investment), I just noticed a link to a new Motorola Droid software update here:
http://www.informationweek.com/news/mobility/smart_phones/showArticle.jhtml?articleID=226500024&cid=iwhome_art_Smart_mostpop
It was published yesterday and hopefully it will help those who currently have issues with their Droids.

This is also happening on my droid x. It was to the two people I texted the most, so I tried deleting the whole thread and then texting them fresh and that worked. Every time they don’t send (often), this works but it is VERY annoying. Then the other day, it wouldn’t send on a thread that was only two texts long, so that threw it a curveball, but the fix works at least for me.

I have a Droid X that I have had for about a month and I just started having this problem. Yesterday when I tried to send a video I got a “national access coverage not available” error even though I had 3G service. Today when I tried to send a different person a photo message I got the “invalid address” message. I also have trouble receiving picture texts (have to reboot the phone to get them to work) This didn’t start happening until I used the wifi for the first time, I wonder if it has anything to do with that?
