PSP Burns a Hole in His Pocket
Harold Clay was burned at school today after his PSP caught fire in his pants pocket. Knowing what to do, the 12 year-old dropped and rolled when he felt it heating up. The middle school student from Metro Detroit’s Farmington Hills was treated at a nearby hospital for minor burns. The portable game system was confiscated by local police to investigate the cause of the blow-up. A local news station called Sony where a spokesperson claims it is the first occurrence of overheating. We are not sure if that is the case, we are just surprised that the PSP was allowed in school in the first place. By the way, Burn Out was the game inside the PSP at the time of the accident.

He probably had a non-original battery in it so you can MOD it more easily and place custom firmware on it which you need to play downloaded games.
If so, there’s a decent chance it was just the non-original battery that exploded as it’s clearly not made to fit in the new PSP Slim&lite;.
His own stupid fault I’d say…. Too bad many people will probably now see the PSP as a non-reliable device….

Well….
from millions of perfectly harmless PSP, there still a chance of defective product that is flammable and pose significant hazard to its user.
I myself never see a PSP like this, I’m sure it has something to do with battery and shorted paths in its motherboard.
Hopefully this kid is fully compensated by Sony
