Sony debuts $500 netbook with hi-res display, launches in August
Yeah, so I’m a Mac user. However, I cannot deny my attraction to the Sony VAIO W-Series. These models have a slick, ultra-portable design and come in three fun colors – berry pink, sugar white and cocoa brown. The W Series incorporates a high-resolution, 1366x768, LED-backlit 10.1-inch ultra-wide display, making it easy to view two full web pages—bye bye side scrolling. You also get a 1.6GHz Intel Atom processor, 160GB hard drive, 1GB RAM, Bluetooth, 802.11b/g/n Wi-Fi, built-in webcam, Ethernet, and more. Starting at $499.99, Sony VAIO W-Series offers a stylish secondary PC alternative for those who travel and need to keep connected.

The only plus is the screen. Why would you spend so much for so little when you can get the asus eee 1005ha from amazon for $349. 1.66ghz n280 atom, 1gb ram, 160gb hd, multitouch mouse, 6 cell battery, bluetooth, wireless b/g/n, and 3 usb ports as opposed to 2. I think it looks just as good to. But the keyboard on the vaio looks pretty good. I have a unibody macbook pro and love the new keyboard. Its a nice upgrade from the one on my old 12in. powerbook.

The unit you describe sells new for about $425….not $349. Almost all the netbooks with all of the Sony W features sell for over $400. So would I pay an extra $75 for the high resolution screen? Yep…...I bought it and don’t regret my purchase a bit!

It was $349 2 months ago. I can’t even find it on amazon now.
