Apple Stores Now Fixing Cracked iPhone Screens

Cracked iPhone screen

Clumsy owners rejoice, because Stores across the country are now fixing cracked iPhone screens in-house. This is definitely a change from the past, as the Apple Store would just hand new iPhones to customers who were still under warranty if they had a cracked screen. Depending on which Apple Store locations you visited, you may have just been outright denied help with a cracked screen as well.

Apple stores now have a process by which they can repair cracked iPhone screen. They have a machine that separates broken glass from the rest of the phone, allowing the Apple store technician to install a new screen.

Of course, if you are out of warranty, the service won’t be free. However, for those of you under AppleCare, you can rest a bit easier knowing that Apple can now repair a cracked iPhone screen, so go ahead and throw away that ugly rubber case.

Hey Andru…remember me from PodTech’s Bloghaus?

Anyway, before you start tossing around that iPhone covered by AppleCare…it’s worth noting that AppleCare doesn’t cover accidental damage or abuse.

Square Trade does offer insurance though:

(I’m not affiliated with them in any way…not even a customer, but I do think their coverage may be a good idea for some people)

Another, much less expensive option, is to have a third party company do the repair for you. Almost every decent sized city in America has 2 or 3 companies that do this exact same repair for under $100. Just go to your city’s Craigslist page and do a search for “iPhone Screen Repair” and you’ll find someone.

If you don’t live in a big city (and, hence, not near a Genius Bar or a small company that does the repair), you can also try using a company that does mail-in repairs for the iPhone. I actually own one small company that does this for $95 ( http://www.jetcitydevices.com ) but there are others. Just go to Google and do a search for “iPhone Screen Repair” and you’ll find a number of places.

I recently had my phone crack and I took it in to the apple store, eager to hear that they now repalaced the screens.  What was failed to be mentioned to me is that they charge $199 to repair the screen. (hmm seems kinda high, knowing that THAT IS WHAT I PAID FOR THE PHONE!)  I was very upset until I found http://www.iphone3gscreenrepair.com.  They repaired my iPhone 3G screen for only $69.99 and it looked like new.  They even offered me a 1 year warranty on the product.  I was very impressed!
