Philips introduces the Hue, an app-controlled smart LED lightbulb

Ever wanted to add extra ambience to your living space? Well, Phillips has a cool new set of lightbulbs that does just that. They're called Hue. LED lightbulbs that change color with iOS app wirelessly via WIFI network. Pretty much any color in the rainbow is at your fingertips. In addition, one can set a schedule for when you want Hue to go on or off, which is a nice security incentive.


Hue is on the pricey side for those who want the colorscapes motif. The starter set up costs $200 for three LED lightbulbs and come with a small white Applesque circular base station that communicates with the lightbulbs. One base station can manage up to 200 lightbulbs. Each additional Hue lightbulb goes for $59 a pop. Phillips states that each Hue lightbulb will last about 15 years.
