Hitachi’s Half Terabyte Hard Drive

Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: PC / Laptop

DescriptionThe new Hitachi Deskstar 7K500 is as cutting edge as hard drives get. It tops out at 500GB - that’s one half a terabyte of information. It can interface with the PC via an older parallel ATA with an 8MB data buffer for $500, or with the 3-gigabits-per-second Serial ATA II interface with a 16MB buffer for $520. Not a bad cash to MB ratio. I remember the first “huge” drive I bought, over two hundred dollars for a paltry 4.3GB Maxtor. PCWorld says the capacity of the 7K500 top out at 1TB by late 2006 before they experience any technical problems with the integrity of the data.
