Gear Live Giveaway: Sony PSP Value Pack
Each week, Gear Live gives away awesome tech prizes courtesy of PrizeCube. The winner of the last contest was Matt M., who walked away with a brand new Logitech Harmony 676 Remote Control.
I am going to make this quick, and easy. You all want a PSP. You may not want to pay $249 for a Value Pack that may be bundled with things you don’t even want, but you still want one. This is where we come in. We are going to give away two Sony PSP Value Packs in this contest. To enter, all you need to do is tell us which PSP launch game has you the most stoked - without using Ridge Racers as your answer. Just let us know which game it is, and why, in the comments area. In a week, we will randomly pick two people who met the requirements, and their PSP’s will be shipped when the product launches. As a friendly reminder, anyone is allowed to leave a comment, but only U.S. residents are eligible to win the prize. Thanks again to PrizeCube for sponsoring our giveaways.

OK, this is all true and I probably am not eligible for the prize, but I’m gonna talk anyway! The game I am waiting for is A.I. Mahjong (it’s a launch title, just a Japanese launch title), followed by A.I. Shogi.
Now, most people think I’m kinda nuts when I say “Mahjong”, but dangit, I like the game. And this is not the Shanghai-style clear the matching block thing. I’m talking kongs, pungs, and chows; real Mahjong. I love the game, but I’m about the only person I know who does (I’m 28 and white, and most Mahjong players I’ve seen are about 70 and Chinese). Since it’s a 4-person game, I’m out of luck. I have a few versions I’ve gotten from the web, but then I’m stuck on my computer. A portable version? Heaven. Of course, I’m used to the Hong Kong rules and I’m guessing AI uses the Japanese rules, but still, I’m willing to pay my $60 (+$250 unless the gods of GearLive take pity on me) on the chance.
Also, I know there are a couple other Mahjong games out now, but the others…I don’t know, just don’t interest me as much. Although that Mahjong Fight Club game has like lightning bolts and stuff, which sounds cool.
As for the other game, AI Shogi, it would be #1 on my list, but I don’t know if it has tsume shogi (endgames) built-in. I’m only good at tsume…I suck at Western chess, so Japanese isn’t much different. That said, I’ve had a 2+ year order in at my local game store for Morita Shogi Advance for the GBA. I think by now the post-it has decomposed.

I am very excited about Need For Speed Rivals. I have been a big fan of the need for speed games and it is great to see it on a handheld.

The one Sony Playstation Portable game that gets me stoked is Untold Legends: Brotherhood of the Blade. It is a compelling hack and slash RPG with multiplayer support and outstanding graphics. It reminds me of a portable version of Champions of Norrath or Baldur’s Gate, which is a good thing. Untold Legends is a great game becuase it has lots of variety between all the characters, weapons, items, enemies, and worlds. I will really enjoy the multiplayer aspect of the game too. Even though it is a hack and slash, Untold Legends will provide me with more hours of fun than any other launch title. I cannot wait til March 24th, so I can pick up the Sony PSP and Untold Legends.

the lauch game that interests me the most has got to be Need For Speed Underground Rivals…....because, ever since i started playing video games (15 years ago) there has always been a few game titles and series that come along and totally revamp the way people look at games. i think that NFS has done that. they were the first to really make imports big in a game. they have the best cosmetic tuning available right now and i know its only goin to get better with “Rivals.” please pick me for this drawing…...i know its random…..but dont worry, i wont tell anybody if u pick me cuz u like me the best
lol but seriously…..i NEED a PSP….if i dont get one, i dont know what i will do. i cant buy one myself cuz im short on money right now and cant splurge at all! im so desperate that i would be willing to put “Gear Live” all over it just to sponser yall. i would play it everywhere and let everyone know what the best internet website is in the entire WORLD!!! PLEASE PICK ME!!!!

Ahh well I clicked a link, which made my original post disapear. :( I guess I’ll have to start over again.
Well I love racing games, and hopefully Ridge Racers will be a good racer, and GT4 live up to its hype. However what I am most excited about is the actual PSP. I have a lot of time in between classes, but stuck at school where I can do nothing but watch my friend play GTA on his Alienware laptop. It would be great to have one gadget that can play videos, games, and music.
However, since you said launch game, I would have to choose Mercury. (http://www.ignitionusa.com/mercury_enter.htm) This looks like a good looking game, and will probably be a lot of fun. It reminds me of a PC game that I liked a lot which was called Balance (http://www.balance.org). They may both be pretty simple games, but they’re a lot of fun to play, and don’t require long periods of time playing.

I’v never really been a handheld fan. The only handheld device i had was ofcourse old school gameboy
This thing still kicks ass!
But the PSP is the only handheld that really surprised me with its great performance. I’m really excited about Metal Gear Acid. I want to see how the new gameplay will change the way we experience this game. They always think of new ways to revolutionize the series.
The great thing about it is you get to bring snake with you! No more waiting to get home to play.

Need For Speed Underground Rivals has me most excited as of now. I’ve played Underground 1 and 2 for PS2 and XBox and I’ve liked both games. The 2nd one is by far better than the first due to it’s performance customizing ability. Since I love racing games like that, Rivals really has me excited.

Im lookin forward to the GTA for PSP even though it was delayed, I’ve played every GTA game released(1/2/3/VC/SA) and will beat this game too.

I cannot stop thinking about playing Metal Gear Acid. The card battle system is so original and with the Wi-FI VR vs Battle mode this will have some great replayability. I have never owned a handheld my entire life becuase I thought they wernt worth it, And behold this comes along a blows me completly away with a slew of fantastic launch titles, Winning this would truly be a blessing becuase 250 dollers Is ALOT of money.

I’d have to say that Wipeout Pure would be the launch game that I am most excited about. It’s always been a fun game but I think that going to the PSP would only make it better. I really hope this game doesn’t suck.

Hands down Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children. I LOVE RPG’s ever since FF7 on the PS1. I can’t wait for this game to come out on the PSP!!!

I want Metal Gear Acid. I have been playing as Solid Snake since the endless mazes of Metal Gear on the NES. Snake is the man and now he has his own portable game. Go SNAKE!!

If I had a PSP I would be most stoked about Gran Turismo 4. I haven’t played it for PS2 yet but I have played 1, 2, and 3 and I was instantly hooked. If gearlive gave me a PSP I would donate money..and I’m not one to donate money.

I’m looking forward to MVP Baseball because I’m a big baseball fan and MVP is the best baseball franchise out there. I can’t wait to take it on the go and play it everywhere including SBC Park, the hottest hot spot there is. Only between innings though, can’t miss a pitch.

Untold Legends - Botherhood of the Blade
This game, developed by SOE, looks to be one of the better titles at release.
There are other titles I am anticipating more, but they won’t be out at release.
Being the first rpg available for the PSP as well as having WAN and LAN play ability,
I don’t know if I will be playing any other games until I get tired of this one.
The graphics are AWESOME and the story is intriging.
I can’t wait!
I also pre-ordered Tisted Metal, but am very familiar with this game and therefore am not as anxious to play it….
CHEERS!

Ok, I would have to say that NFSU Rivals will be awsome and I can’t wait till it comes out. I Always play Need for Speed Underground 2 on the PS2 and NFSU Rivals would be my number one pick for the PSP. I think sony has done a good job for the line-up of the PSP. Now… it probably is not the best but after the PSP comes out in the US there will be a good choice to choose from.
AGAIN: My #1 pick is…. Need for Speed Underground Rivals for the PSP!

The game I would want most is the new Grand Theft Auto. I’m not a ps2 owner, but when GTAIII and Vice City came out for xbox, I was addicted to them for months. The psp version is going to be set in GTA III’s setting, Liberty City, but will be a different game. Who doesn’t love to steal cars, get money, and kill innocent people?
I hope I have a PSP by the time this game comes out!

I am looking forward to playing wipeout pure. From the videos I’ve seen it looks great and plays fast. Plus it has features that can be wirelessly downloaded using the psp’s wi-fi. I mean how cool is that!

Hmmm, Coded Arms. Wow, It’s everything any frag’er would want. First person shooting, on a psp? Pfff. forget First Hunt, for the ds, you cant even properly shoot with a ds (tapping the screen) ! Multiplayer would really kick serious butt for the psp, since it’s around 100 meters roughly, I could be in my classroom, and be playing my friend, on the other side of hall, frag’ing the crap out of him. This game is hyped alot and should be, its the game that im really “stoked” for.

I think that “Need for Speed Underground Rivals” will be best. This is because, I mean racing at crazy speeds, burning out your engin. That would would just be awsome. ya, sure all the other Need for speeds are cool, but this one is just going to be the best.

has to be Final Fantasy. I take the subway every day here in NYC and i need a game on the go! this is going to be a great RPG as they usually are. Woot!

Metal Gear Acid for me! There’s something to be said about a series that I’ve owned and loved since its first iteration on the NES. I’m hoping this upcoming version will be just as good as its predecesors.

I am personally looking forward to battlefield psp!! that game is going to be quite amazing i must say. If youve ever played the famous franchise on Pc ull agree that is actually one of te greatest games ever made! ign even calls the game “one of the most enjoyable games that theyve ever played” could you imagine sitting in your house laying on the couch… anywhere..(if you have a wireless network =).) and playing that game online against people all over the world on your little PSP? I can and i love the thought of it. This game is goign to test the power of the PSP but also prove how amazing it rlly is to all you doubters out there. The game itself will make PSP a success just from the loyal following it has. I think it is going to be one of the most entertaining mobile games EVER. Also, props to the PSP.. The Godfather the game will be coming out on it. This will be amazing as well.. its going to be very similar to GTA except take place in the 40s with tommy guns, bootleggers, and of course… all ur favorite characters from The Godfather movie.. L00k for these two great amazing games coming out for PSP in the next few months. If any of you have any questions be sure to pm me and i will answer them for you. Don’t forget to post your own opinons here guys! - nizzle

The game I am most interested in is Lumines. This great puzzle game innovates the genre, and has great graphics+sounds to boot. Haven’t been this excited for a handheld puzzle game since Tetris!

Tony Hawk’s Underground 2 Remix looks very promising. It’s the kind of game that requires a lot of patience (at least on my 27-year-old part) to master moves—and it’s perhaps a patience better suited for long trips and idle time than the living room couch.
Reply to this: comment | thread
I’m gonna have to say Lumines. I love Tetris and I think this will be just as good if not better. But I’m going to have to mention Tony Hawk’s Underground 2 Remix too. Mainly because I love the Tony Hawk series and I think it will be a lot of fun on the run. And yes, I know that rhymed. I had one of the TH games for Game Boy Advance. But it wasn’t very good at all with the 2d graphics. I think the 3d graphics will make a huge difference.

Twisted Metal. It was my very first video game when I first got a PlayStation as a wee lad. I still have the entire PS1 Twisted Metal series (with the exception of the RC cars one) on my shelf. I would love to take my first real gaming experience, increase the graphics, and make it portable.

Without question Mercury. It’s been a long time since we had a really good puzzle game. Super Monkey Ball is the closest thing to a new Tetris we’ve had in years. It looks incredible and word on the street is that it’s very addictive.

Any of the EA sports games. I’d love to see a Nascar game available but I’m not sure what is planned for game releases but anything on the sports front would be awesome!

Out of the two dozen launch games I honestly have to say im looking for forward to Twisted Metal:Head-On. I remember playing the original Twisted Metal I and II on the orignal PS a few years back. Always had a blast playing it with my friends. Come on, Whats better then cars equipped with firearms?
Both Metal Gear Acid and Need for Speed Underground Rivals comes in second. Been a fan of MetalGear since forever.

Metal gear solid. This game was great on gameboy color and other consoles and all of the recent ones have turned out awesome. I expect this one to be the same!

Need for Speed Underground Rivals….............gotta love the speed!

Twisted Metal: Head On all the way!!!!
Reply to this: comment | thread
oops, meant to say why Twisted Metal: Head On would be my choice. Fast 3D that will make the PSP need a heatsink next to my thumbs.
Reply to this: comment | thread
For me, Twisted metal: Head on is the best launch game. I have never played any Twisted Metal games before, but it looks like it’s going to be amazing. It will also feature online multiplayer mode, along with the usual wireless multiplayer.

I am very excited about Tony Hawks Underground 2 Remix because THUG2 was really good on the xbox. Can’t wit to try it on the psp.

Need for speed…. I love it on all consoles, and finally being able to play it on PSP will be awesome..

THPSU 2 Remix!! that game is looking pretty sick!

Definatly Metal Gear AC!D I’m just totally “stoked” on being able to tactically fight against my closest friends and worst of enemies.
Reply to this: comment | thread
Wipeout Pure looks amazing! The tracks remind me of some of the JetMoto tracks, which is sorely missed on the PS2. Plus it looks really fast, and it’s something that would be fun to play with my kids. The rumors about Sony providing a lot of extra downloadable content have piqued my interest even more!
