Mac G4 Cube Mod
What could be cooler than a Mini G5? The next best thing – a G4 Cube made to look like a G5. With A LOT of time on your hands and the right materials, you too can achieve G5 greatness on your G4 Cube. Granted the website is not in English, but at least there are enough pictures to figure out how to do the mod. Now if only someone can do something similar to the Mac Mini – I’m curious as to what that would look like.

maybe? I don’t think there is any question that the mini is better. This is an awesome mod, and would be a really neat thing to do if you have a g4 cube. That said, I am really glad Apple went in another direction then just cloning a g5. Why would Apple make their lowest end computer look the same as their top end end? It wouldn’t make sense for them to do that.

And how is the Mini better than a Cube?
It has 32MB video RAM, reportedly 64MB in recent models but those are like alien sightings. And without a AGP or PCIe slot makes it totally useless for games. That is, unless you love Tomb Raider, then be my guest. For CPU you have the choice of—wait, you have no choice. No future upgrades to speak of. No large L3 cache. No dual processors. And someone mentioned white. What good is that white bezel on top of the Mac Mini? You can’t place anything there without scratching the surface. Welcome to scratch-a-minute iPod city. Good choice for a case.
Minis are going real cheap these days. For a while I was considering getting one too, after selling off my older AGP Mac. But the above few points really stopped me cold. I went with a Cube instead. I’m glad, because now at least I can play Doom 3. And even with all the upgrades my total didn’t even add up to the cost of an eMac.
BTW this G5-wannabe mod would be nice, if the video card isn’t facing down at the bottom of the case. That’ll seriously fry your GPU. My FX5200 card burns like hell when I tried placing it that way. And this is with the Cube core exposed!
