Crowd Stampedes at $50 iBook Sale

$50 iBook Stampede

As gates opened early this morning on the Richmond, Virginia, $50 iBook sale, the crowd of thousands of shoppers stampeded, causing several injuries.  While none of the injuries appeared to have been serious, the crowd was described as “surly” and required some police intervention.  The sale, put on by the local school system, was intended to liquidate around 1,000 Apple laptops from the high school in order to make room for new systems from Dell.  The 4-year-old iBooks came with no warranty, but most were expected to function decently, despite reports of some student abuse.

EDIT: Just found out that one woman actually wet herself rather than giving up her spot in line. That’s just not right.

(Thanks Veronica!)

LOL people are nuts…

Dam yo, a 4YO ibook aint even worth soiled underwear!  The school should of auctioned them off or given them to another school thats not so priveledged. Friggin psycho people!

dude each laptop had an airport card worth $100 alone

wow and to think i was going to go… haha

last time i checked, airport was nothing but a lousy 802.11a/b nic. it aint worth $100 bucks, well maybe 4 years ago, but its just like mac to sell you an apple that someone already took a bite of! wink

albundy - None of what you said was right.  An Airport Card costs $100.  Apple had nothing to do with this situation.  A SCHOOL sold the old iBooks…

Try reading and understanding what you’re posting about first.

Sooo…the airport card is not a network card is what your saying….and its not based on old wireless technology. Makes sense.

Wow.  That is spectacular work on your part.  You really had to dig deep to miss the point that badly.

Let’s try this:  The point is that within the $50 laptop these folks were purchasing resides a $100 (actually $80) piece of hardware.  The point is not the technology involved, it is the price of the item.

Anyhow…
