Best Buy Has Customer Arrested For Using $2 Bills
Just when we think they are doing some good in the tech world, they go and mess it up, as always. Best Buy customer Mike Bolesta simply wanted to purchase a car stereo. After being assured that a particular model would fit, he realized the Best Buy sales rep was incorrect (this sounds familiar). After being told the installation fee would be waived due to the error, he was able to get the correct stereo. When he got home, he received a call from Best Buy saying he needed to pay the fee. Upset about the horrible service he received, Mike decided to pay the $144 charge using only $2 bills. Now, there is no law against this. $2 bills are still legal tender here in the United States. He handed over 57 bills, and should have been able to be on his way. Instead, he was asked accusingly if they were real. Then they called the cops. I feel for ya Mike, it’s just unfortunate that I have heard stories like this in the past - and yours probably won’t be the last. Anyone else have a story of horrible customer service at an electronics retailer?
(Thanks antman!)

No they aren’t. I walked in to a bank, gave then 2 singles, and asked for a 2 dollar bill.
I have one of those wallets with a money clip so I keep the 2 dollar bill on the outside and people have a good laugh

I would sue for embarassment on Best-Buy the PD for not checking the facts prior to arrest. The terrorist bit the PD laid out was nothing more than an excuse for not checking the facts first, beause they F’d up. This person should take this opportunity and sue the crap out of both of them.
P.S. I would also call Best-Buy corporate and tell them they need new cashiers at that location that know what money looks like.

There’s a little more to the story than just the fact that he tried to pay with $2.00 bills. Apparently what caused suspicion is that the bills were in sequential number and the ink on one of them was smudged. That’s what led the folks at best buy to think they were fake.
http://www.snopes.com/business/info/tacobell.asp - There’s a bit on the best buy incident at the bottom of this article as well as a link to some other “funny money” tales with $2 bills and $1 coins
Now as for bestbuy’s customer service as far as telling him installation was free and threatening to have him arrested if he did not come back and pay it - that’s where they should be getting the most grief.

Thats awful, but I have heard bad things about best buy.

I think it wasn’t good of BestBuy to do this to their customer. They should have at least verified that the $2 bills were legit or not before even accusing the customer. These types of problems can only be solved by training employees better.
