Archos Gmini 402cc
We are very much looking forward to the Archos Gmini 402cc. Yeah, we have seen so many DAPs come and go from a multitude of different manufacturers, but Archos seems to do a good job while remaining low key about the whole thing. When we got our hands on the older Gmini 220, there were a few things we wanted to see improved. Archos met the challenge with the Gmini 400, and now looks to have improved it even further with the 402cc. How so?
Well, for starters, the Gmini 402cc can record 50 hours of video on it’s 20GB hard drive in MPEG-4 SP format, with five different recording modes at your disposal along with a 2x digital zoom. That being said, the Gmini 402cc is also a 1.2 megapixel digital camera. Not the highest end in photography, but definitely a value add. Of course, you can listen to audio (MP3, WMA, Windows DRM), display images, play video, and even game on this thing. The video out ports allow you to play your movies and photo slideshows on a screen larger than the 2.2-inch Gmini display, and the video in allows it to act as a PVR. Look for it to drop soon.

I think it would be easy for a DAP manufacturer to please the people that post here. If they read the posts on this site for a couple weeks they would have a pretty good idea of what everyone wants.
I can’t blame them for trying to keep costs down, but by cutting corners they are also alienating the most knowledgable segment of the market. This is important because people that don’t know jack about DAP’s always ask their knowledgable friends which one they should buy.
That said, I think this is the one I would buy if I was in the market for a 20 gigger. Did I mention that I want 60GB…..?

For me the only drawback is the 20GB, if you can call it a drawback. It’s a nice gadget with many features. It would make a great gift without emptying your wallet. I would like to see em get even cheaper.
