AMD Tells Gamers Not To Go Dual-Core
For all the gamers who were excited about the Dual-Core Athlon, you may want to hold off on purchasing one. AMD has released a statement saying, “Gamers, AMD’s upcoming dual-core desktop processor, the Athlon 64 X2, is not for you. What you want is the single-core Athlon 64 FX.” The reasoning behind this is mainly that games have to be programmed specifically to work with dual-core processors. This is much like what happened when Hyper-Threading was introduced by Intel. At this time AMD’s FX-55 Chip has a 200 MHz gain over the top of the line X2. Until games start being programmed to take advantage of the Dual-Core chips, this is a better way to go.

Bad move from AMD then. If gamers are that stoopid to shell out for dual core, let them be dissapointed.
HOWEVER, that is not to say that future games will not support multithreading.

Yes, but they did tell them to buy the FX, which is a measly $800

Anyone who has ever looked into running games on a dual CPU system already knows this is true.
These things don’t do a damn thing for gamers. In fact they don’t do anything for pretty much any of your average users out there. They only offer a benefit to very specific applications that have been designed to take advantage of the dual cores. If I was a scientist crunching reams and reams of data, these things might excite me, but as an average user who uses my computer for games, email, www, they are pure crap.
