Apple beta testing iPhone 2.1 firmware, adding more GPS features

iPhone 2.1

We just got word that has released a beta version of OS 2.1 to developers. Along with the 2.1 firmware, a new version of the iPhone SDK has been seeded as well, but the new SDK can’t be used for submitting applications to the at the moment.

A few new things we are seeing in this version of the software is the addition of a bunch of Core Location features that track the direction you are heading, and the speed you are traveling. Looks like we might see a turn-by-turn GPS app after all on the iPhone 3G.

Good to see Apple working on improvements already. Potentially there are many updates that could be done, I hope they listen to the iPhone users!

Any chance that the GPS functionality includes a way to get location information from a web page?  Like a JavaScript API call?

does any1 have more then 100 apps installed on the Iphone?
after 101 the phone does not load the application.

Remember if you have a jailbroken or unlocked iPhone you should wait to hear that it’s safe before upgrading to iPhone 2.1 http://www.iphone-hacks.com/2008/09/09/iphone-21-to-be-available-friday-september-12/
