Square Offers New Final Fantasy XII DS Trailer

Square-Enix has placed a new trailer for Final Fantasy XII: Revenant Wings for the DS online. There is a small streaming version on the main page of their Revenant Wings site, but inside the trailers section is a larger streaming video. The trailer includes a fair amount of pre-rendered footage, but gamers can also get a glimpse at some of the in-game video, including combat sequences. The trailer was shown previously at the Jump Festa 2007 event in Japan.

Bungie Releases First Video Documentary For Halo 3

This morning, Bungie made the first ViDoc (video documentary) available for Halo 3. The video documentary focuses on the Brutes in the game and runs approximately seven minutes. Bungie is cautioning that the graphics in the documentary are not final, but the feature should give a good idea about where the company is heading with these creatures in the new game. English language Standard and High Definition versions are available on the Xbox Live Marketplace, and the company will be making localized versions and a non-Marketplace version available later. The feature is also currently available on GameVideos.com

Bungie Drops Halo 3 Details On Halo Anniversary

On the 5th anniversary of the release of the original Halo, Bungie has dropped a few more details about the goings-on in the Halo universe. First, a new Halo 3 commercial will air exclusively on Monday Night Football on December 4th, with availability on the Xbox Live Marketplace to follow. The commercial will be entirely in CG, which may be disappointing to hard-core fans looking for new in-game footage, but Bungie promises that the commercial will be something special nonetheless.
In addition, Bungie is promising exclusive Halo 2 multiplayer map content available on the Xbox 360. The content won’t be free, and also leaves current Xbox Halo 2 players in the cold. Bungie holds out a faint hope that the content may eventually make its way to the original Xbox, but realistically, this stands little chance of happening. A side benefit of the exclusive content, however, is the news that the backwards compatibility team will be looking at fixing some existing issues in Halo 2 on the Xbox 360.
Finally, probably the biggest news will be the availability of a public beta of Halo 3 this Spring. It sounds like right now the beta will be a limited multiplayer test, but should be exciting for those anxiously waiting for the next iteration of the franchise.

“Higher Definition” Video Hits PlayB3yond.com

Sony just updated the PlayB3yond website with a new video, “Higher Definition” that touts the console’s support for 1080P resolutions and Blu-Ray for additional storage. While 1080p has been hotly debated across the Internet, and some have doubted whether the 50 GB offered by Blu-Ray will make an impact in this generation of video games, Sony’s marketing really knows how to make a compelling advertisement for both.

New Legend Of Zelda Trailers Online

Nintendo has posted a couple of new trailer videos for Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess on the Wii. The first shows off the introduction to the game, with Link riding through the game world. The second offers some tidbits of the gameplay and the cutscenes for the game. Also available on Wii.com are some gameplay experience videos, with other players taking on the new Zelda on the Wii. The new videos definitely recall the previous incarnations of Link on the Nintendo 64, with new twists and upgrades for Nintendo’s new console.

Sony has started ramping up advertisements for their new console, and the latest would best be described as bizarre. The abstract advertisement shows a toy baby doll in a bare room with the Playstation 3 going though a gamut of emotions. Sony seems to be playing somewhat off the “2001” monolith-like look of the console, particularly when this is tied to the background sounds used in the commercial. This part of the campaign appears to be more tied to raising awareness rather than informing the customer.
Sony has updated their PlayB3yond.com website with a couple of new videos, with promises of more in the future. The two new videos, “Smarter” and “Capacity,” attempt to highlight the benefits of Sony’s new console. The videos use new game footage of Resistance: Fall of Man and Warhawk to bolster Sony’s claims, and the Resistance footage offers a little Matrix-like interactivity. While Sony plays a little fast and loose with the media storage numbers in “Capacity,” the videos show off the Sony hype machine firing on all cylinders. It doesn’t hurt that the videos are narrated by Lance Henrikson of Aliens fame.

“The Daily Show” Rips Apart “Left Behind: Eternal Forces”

While making violent video game about “saving souls” sort of seems like self-satire already, The Daily Show decided the upcoming Left Behind: Eternal Forces was still ripe for some ridicule. Watch the above clip, where the host makes some apt comparisons between Left Behind and Grand Theft Auto: “Damn! That guy just got saved between the eyes! You just blessed his head off!”
From the looks of it Left Behind may actually be a somewhat decent videogame, and with the gratuitous violence and action it’s sure to at least be more exciting than The Bible Game. Still, it’s going to be kind of ironic to see an M-rated video game supposedly based on religious principles sitting on store shelves. And please, for the love of God, let’s hope that no kid gets the wrong idea and thinks that he can “save” his friend by shooting them in the face.

PC Requirements and Recommendations Listed for Crysis

With its advanced real-time lighting, destructible gently-swaying forest environments, and beautiful textures, Crytek’s Crysis promises to be one of the best-looking games on the PC. It’s also going to put quite a dent in your bank account, from the looks of it. A forum admin over on the Crysis website has posted estimated system requirements for the game, as follows:

CPU: Athlon 64 3000+/Intel 2.8ghz
Graphics: Nvidia 6600/X800GTO (SM 2.0)
RAM: 768Mb/1Gb on Windows Vista
HDD: 6GB

With the Xbox 360 also due to get this game, it’ll be interesting to see how the versions compare - at least for me, the cost to upgrade my system to meet those recommended specs would probably make it worthwhile to just get a 360 instead.
