Griffin iMic ReviewRecently VOIP technologies such as Skype, Vonage and Gizmo have really come to focus in the telecommunications marketplace. With this surge in VOIP traffic of course the question arises of how to get your voice into a computer in the clearest possible way. Companies like Vonage solve this problem by giving you a router which enables you to use a standard telephone with your VOIP service. Technologies like Skype and Gizmo get a bit more tricky. Most laptop computers come with built in speakers and a microphone, and most desktops feature the ability to plug in a microphone and speakers as well, but with that solution echo’s and poor sound quality can be a significant problem. Luckily headsets featuring high quality headphones and a boom mic such as the Sennheiser PC 150 enable you to get high quality audio for use in VOIP, Podcast creation, gaming, and other voice activated applications.

Unfortunately, upon purchasing my headset I discovered that my powerbook had only a line in,and lacked a microphone input - something a fair number of laptops suffer from. Enter the Griffin iMic USB sound card. The iMic is a great little accessory that enables you to use additional headsets and a variety of microphones or add an extra line in to your Mac or PC. Analog TV 2009I can’t say I am saddened by the news, but everything is now a go for broadcasters to begin using purely digital broadcast methods. This means that analog TV will be a thing of the past in another four years. This will then allow the government to sell off the analog spectrum for an estimated 30-70 billion, and would likely be re-used for high speed wireless and data services. In 2007, all new televisions should have a built-in digital tuner.

Kingmax 1 GB Notebook Had to give you guys a quick heads up on this one. Newegg is currently selling a 1 GB 200-Pin SO-DIMM DDR 333 (PC 2700) Notebook Memory module for only $107 USD. For those not in the know, that is a great deal. I just picked one up for my PowerBook G4, which will bump it up to its max capacity of 1.25 GB. Something tells me this deal won’t last long, so jump on it. In fact, be sure to check out these Newegg promo codes.

This is great news for those of us working out of our homes using Comcast High Speed Internet. Just recently they upgraded their download speed from 3.0 Mbps to 4.0 (6.0 for $10 extra on their Gold Tier). Well, feeling the heat from services like Verizon FIOS, Comcast is once again going to upgrade the download speed on their network. Those who subscribe to Comcast Expanded Basic cable will see their speed rise to 6.0/384 with no price increase. Even better, if you pay $10 extra for the Gold Tier, you will get 8.0/768 - that is a great deal. All markets should receive the upgrade by the end of the summer.

Check out this new - and free - tool to manage your submissions to Web Directories. The site lists all directories in its database, and allows you to search by Free, Reciprocal, and Paid services. You can then click over to any service and submit your site. After doing so, you can check off that site so that you know you already submitted to them. When approved, you go back and check the Approved checkbox, and then you know there is no more need to follow up with that particular directory. They say they will continually add new directories to the list as they discover them.

GTA Sex Minigame
While GTA: San Andreas is an M Rated game, a program labeled “Hot Coffee” seems to change that to X-Rated.  The app is for the PC version of the GTA title to change the original game code. While Hot Coffee is indeed under a lot of heat, they explain that they didn’t not implement the edited scene merely uncovered what was already there.  The scene involves your character going to see his girlfriend for some coffee.  In the unchanged version, moans and groans can be heard while the video and audio only suggest sex is taking place.  “Hot Coffee” uncovers the scene as it was meant to be seen (according to the makers of Hot Coffee) – with sexually explicit content.  Who’s telling the truth? Rockstar has this to say:

“So far we have learned that the “hot coffee” modification is the work of a determined group of hackers who have gone to significant trouble to alter scenes in the official version of the game,” reads the statement. “In violation of the software user agreement, hackers created the ‘hot coffee’ modification by disassembling and then combining, recompiling and altering the game’s source code. Since the ‘hot coffee’ scenes cannot be created without intentional and significant technical modifications and reverse engineering of the game’s source code, we are currently investigating ways that we can increase the security protection of the source code and prevent the game from being altered by the ‘hot coffee’ modification.”

As an entrepreneur, networking is key. Getting to know as many people as possible - and getting as many of them to know you - will help you immensely. Be sure to go to as many networking events as possible, including trade shows that are in your sector. This tip is one of the more important ones:

3. When you collect business cards, follow-up! Note on the back of each card where you met the individual and something noteworthy to help you remember him. Schedule a time to meet for coffee to continue building the relationship.
I have picked up almost 200 business cards from people over the last two months. If you don’t manage them correctly, it is very easy to lose track of who you met and where. Check out the article for nine more networking tips.
