Xbox Live Arcade 8/1: Marathon: Durandal And Spyglass Board Games
Posted by Chris Pereira Categories: Bungie, Casual, First Person Shooters, Microsoft, Retro, Xbox 360, Xbox Live, Xbox Live Arcade

Marathon: Durandal and Spyglass Board Games are now available on the Xbox Live Arcade, as previously announced. Marathon is an old-school FPS originally developed by Bungie, the guys behind Halo. While you may not have had a chance to play it before – or even hear of it – it’s a game that introduced many mechanics into the FPS genre that have been taken for granted for years now, like dual wielding. The game will run you 800 Microsoft Points, or $10. If you liked Doom, be sure to give Marathon a shot.
Spyglass Board Games is a compilation of four very popular classic board games: chess, checkers, mancala, and reversi. Given its cheap price (400 points; $5) and Vision Camera support, it’s definitely something worth picking up if you enjoy any of the included games.
Check after the break for more details on both games.

Over on Unboxing Live, we just published a video looking at the unboxing of the aXbo SLEEPPHASE Alarm Clock. Much like the SLEEPTRACKER watch reviewed by Gear Live previously, the SLEEPPHASE Alarm Clock specializes in waking you up when you are in your lightest phase of sleep. When that happens, you feel more rejuvinated than tired. The alarm clock monitors up to two wireless bracelets (meaning it works for two people), and tracks your movement near your programmed wake-up time. Check the video for all the details.

Bosses And Enemies To Be Included In LittleBigPlanet
Posted by Chris Pereira Categories: Platformers, PlayStation 3, Sony

In the latest issue of Electronic Gaming Monthly, senior producer on LittleBigPlanet, Pete Wilson, confirmed that LBP is going to be more than just a platformer.
It’s funny—I don’t think we actually mentioned this previously, but yes, we will certainly have enemies in the game; I think that’s a fundamental part of good gameplay,” said Wilson. “They will range from little robots that simply roam from left to right to spectacularly complex beasts that pose quite a challenge. We’ve recently built this big, huge giant, and, as with other objects in the game, he’s composed entirely of materials that you wouldn’t expect. He’s quite intimidating, and shows the possibility of what designers can create.
Sounds pretty sweet. If the game enables you to create enemies, then that throws another major dynamic into the mix.

First Downloadable Content For Forza 2 Available Tonight
Posted by Chris Pereira Categories: Downloadable Content, Driving, Microsoft, Xbox 360, Xbox Live

Hitting late tonight (well technically, tomorrow, August 1) at 2AM PST will be a free Nissan car pack for Forza Motorsport 2, which includes the 2007 models of the Sentra SE-R, Altima, and 350Z. There will also be a single car that you can purchase for a measly 50 Microsoft Points (or $0.62) in the Peugeot 908. To celebrate the release of the free downloadable content, there will be a variety of events held by Nissan and Xbox.
The first of these activities will be a Nissan Sentra SE-R tournament on Xbox LIVE. In addition to the tournament, Nissan and Xbox will also be hosting an in-game customization contest, as fans utilize the incredibly deep livery system of “Forza Motorsport 2” to create unique and stunning paint jobs on their Nissan Sentra SE-Rs. The contest will be judged by a panel comprised of Turn 10 developers and Nissan representatives, as fans vie for the title of ultimate Nissan customizer.
Further details will be unveiled on ForzaMotorsport.net, and we’ll keep you up-to-date here at Playfeed. Check after the break for shots of both the Altima and Sentra. (That’s a 350Z above, in case you aren’t great at figuring that sort of thing out.)
Viva Piñata Headed To The Nintendo DS
Posted by Chris Pereira Categories: Casual, Microsoft, Nintendo, Nintendo DS, Strategy
During Comic-Con last week, Microsoft announced that a Viva Piñata title was in development for the Nintendo DS. Apparently, this isn’t going to be a Party Animals port (the Mario Party-style Viva Piñata title announced during this year’s Microsoft E3 press conference) – instead, it’ll be a full on remake of the Xbox 360 game. It’ll contain all of the piñata found in the Xbox 360 version, as well as some new ones, as well.
“You’ll also be given free rein with an expanded selection of tools and tool actions, upgraded forms of the Journal and Encyclopaedia, and brand new game modes such as Sandbox (for full and easy access to your favourite Piñatas) and Episodes (tying in more closely to the TV series and allowing fans of the show to spend quality time with familiar faces).”
The game will be designed with the unique features of the DS in mind; most specifically, the DS’ touch panel.
“Design, nurture, instruct, protect and care for your garden and animals through direct touch. The DS WiFi service also lets you send prime Piñata specimens to your friends, making the act of parading your Doenut around in a humiliating pirate outfit easier than ever.”
It’ll be interesting to see exactly who gets the publishing rights to the game. Following Microsoft’s acquisition, Rare did still release several games on the Game Boy Advance, all of which were published by THQ. And the recently released Diddy Kong Racing DS, developed by Rare, was published by Nintendo.
