Culture Club Announce First Tour in 15 Years

Culture ClubCulture Club has announced their first tour in 15 years.

The band - fronted by Boy George - will play 11 UK dates and will also head back into the studio to record new material with producer Youth, who has worked with Paul McCartney, The Verve and Embrace, for an album to be released early in 2015.

The “Karma Kameleon” hitmakers - Mikey Craig, Roy Hay, Jon Moss and Boy George - sold in excess of 100 million singles and over 50 million albums, and were one of the biggest pop bands of the 1980s. They achieved seven Top 10 hits in the UK and also had big success in American and Australia. Culture Club were also the first group since The Beatles to have three Top Ten hits in America from a debut album.

Boy George also recently released his first solo album is 20 years, This Is What I Do, and said being sober for six years has helped him to focus more on his career: “Certainly being sober clears things up, it gets rid of all the cobwebs in the clouds and you start to think about things in a more professional, functional manner. It's more a question of following my instincts. As an artist, you just follow what you feel, and it felt like the right time.”

Boy George: New Culture Club Album Set for 2014

Boy GeorgeBoy George has revealed Culture Club are going to release new music.

The “Do You Really Want to Hurt Me” hitmakers haven't put out any new material since 1999, but the singer has confirmed they will start writing the album in January. “It will be a new record, completely new. There's no point just doing it for nostalgia ... We're certainly going to do it,” he told The Sun.

The group's guitarist Roy Hay met up with Boy George last week in Los Angeles to discuss plans, and Culture Club are aiming to record the new record early next year ahead of a release later in 2014. The “Karma Chameleon” quartet - completed by Mikey Craig and Jon Moss - could end up working with Brian Eno, famous for producing music by the likes of Depeche Mode, Coldplay and U2.

“There's some interesting ideas about who we want to work with. It's got to be really good,” Boy George said.

Boy George Thinks Pop Records are Too Similar

Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Gossip, Reunions, Upcoming Releases, Pop,

Boy GeorgeBoy George thinks all today's pop records sound the same.

The “Do You Really Want to Hurt Me” singer thinks today's crop of pop stars are more interested in personal gain than making a difference to the world, and most of their records are boring as a result.

“Pop, I think, just goes in waves, and I think technology kind of makes everyone make the same record. I think the problem at the moment, and has been for a while, is that everybody wants to make loads of money, because that seems to be the most important thing. They all want the fur coat, nobody wants to change the world - and that's the problem. Technology is a great thing because it's opened up the doors for people, but when you hear things it's just, 'It's the new this, it's the new version of that' and it's just like, 'Yawn,'” he told BANG Showbiz, speaking at the Ivor Novello awards.

Boy George Has Monitoring Device Removed

Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Gossip,

Boy GeorgeBoy George has had a monitoring device allowing police to monitor his whereabouts removed.

The Culture Club singer was sentenced to wear the tag on his ankle at all times as a condition of his early release from jail for his assault and false imprisonment of a male escort in 2007. He has also had a curfew, which was placed on him as part of his bail terms, lifted. Posting a picture of his ankle with the tag on his Twitter page, George wrote underneath it “The Final Countdown.”

George, 48, then posted another picture, of his bare leg, with a reference to finally being free underneath it. He later uploaded another picture of his family celebrating his release from the tag, writing underneath: “Me and the whole family celebrating in the kitchen, so sweet for my mum and sister to come for the un-tagging!”
