What Lady Gaga taught me: Small shows are better shows

lady gaga monster ball

Obviously has gained in popularity over the last 8 months or so, but even back when she was going to do the Fame Kills combo tour with Kanye West, she was seen as a legitimate draw…but then Kanye pulled out and she toured on her own, visiting smaller venues. This year she blew up, selling out arenas on her own. Having gone to both, I definitely prefer the smaller shows where everyone is up close and personal with the performer. Even more weird though, the staging and effects were twice as good at the smaller show, on the smaller stage, than they were at the larger dome show. Better effects, and an awesome 3D video backdrop (it’s hard to describe, but it was fantastic) definitely won out over what they put together for the bigger show. Go figure.

We’ve got two images from each event after the break - have a preference? Let us know in the comments.

VIDEO: Drake and Jimmy Kimmel Write Twitter Song

Drake may already be a chart topper with lot of rowdy fans, but that doesn’t mean the rapper couldn’t use songwriting help from time to time.

In this video from Jimmy Kimmel Live, the “Find Your Love” singer teams up with the creative host on an entirely new track inspired by celebrity tweets.

After watching Jimmy Kimmel and Drake perform “Tweet Tweet,” you might find it hard not to “follow” them on their own Twitter accounts (found here and here).

(FYI - While you’re at it, you can also follow Albumista on Twitter.)

My Reactions to Lady Gaga’s Alejandro Video

Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Gossip, Music Videos, Videos, Pop,

What a better way for to celebrate June 8th than with a video that is over 8 minutes long?

In this Steven Klein-directed clip for “Alejandro,” the singer takes a relatively simple approach when it comes to hair and costuming. She didn’t, though, spare any drama when it came to the video itself.

WARNING: This clip for “Alejandro” is NSFW. So you might have to settle for my initial reactions after the jump.

Willie Nelson cuts off beard

This could be the biggest separation in country music since Brooks parted ways with Dunn.

Over the weekend, musician did what the hadn’t done in over thirty years - perform without his signature braid. The “Always On My Mind” singer sported the new look - as seen in this AP photo - during a gig in Maui.

Although no explanation was given for the change, Nelson’s rep said the snip happened within the past few weeks.

Maybe Nelson could donate the braid to BP Global should the company move on to Plan Z?

U2 Officially Delays Concert Tour

U2

Concert promoter is having a very bad week.

First, Christina Aguilera announces she’ll be postponing her tour until sometime 2011. Now, U2 is delaying their gigs as well.

The official announcement comes just days after learning that Bono had emergency surgery on his back in Munich, Germany. Although it had already been announced that the band’s stop in Salt Lake City would be rescheduled, the remaining cities in the group’s North American leg will now have to wait as well.

We Are the World - Part Two

We are the World singers

First, they sang for Africa. Now, they’ll be singing for Haiti.

To help celebrate the classic “We Are the World” recording, and Lionel Richie will be uniting artists once again to sing for a good cause. Artists in the Los Angeles area for the Jan. 31 Grammys will be asked to participate in this musical event taking place on February 1.

When the original song - co-written by Richie and - was first released, proceeds generated by the single went toward the relief effort in Africa. Although a 25th anniversary-celebration had already been in the works prior to the earthquake in Haiti, the devastation in that country changed the scope of the plans.

It’s not yet known who will be involved in the new session, though artists including Usher, Natalie Cole, and John Legend have already been given invites.

“We Are the World” was recorded on January 28, 1985.

Quote of the Day: Timbaland Compares Miley Cyrus to Justin Timberlake

Miley Cyrus

“Man, she’s gonna be like Justin [Timberlake]. She comes from that same musical background, where she’s just got it. Her voice is just there. The best way to put it is she’s special. When I worked with her, I was very impressed. I was like, ‘Whoa.’”
