Sequel News: Monsters Inc., Mulholland Drive and More


Monsters Inc.: When Toy Story 3 finally comes and goes, we’ll still have another Pixar sequel to look forward to. Disney has just announced that a follow to 2001’s Monsters Inc. is in the works. The feature will premiere on Nov. 16, 2012.

Wanted: Kristen Stewart as a replacement…for Angelina Jolie? The forces behind Wanted 2 are reportedly eyeing the Twilight star for a role in the sequel. (Although they had hoped to bring back Jolie, she has already opted out.) Director Timur Bekmambetov is considering casting Stewart as a “young, ass-kicking assassin in the Fraternity.”

Tron Legacy vs. The Green Hornet

We’re still weeks away from Fall 2009, but the big screen battle for Winter 2010 has already begun.

As of today, there are at least four movies scheduled to open on December 17th of next year. Competing against will be a live-action adaptation of Yogi Bear. Meanwhile, Michel Gondry’s The Green Hornet will now face off against a highly-anticipated sequel from Disney.

Just days after Hornet was moved to the December slot (it was previously set to premiere on July 9), the Mouse House announced that it intends to debut on that same date. The movie, which would once again feature Jeff Bridges, is a follow to the 1982 sci-fi adventure. (You can view the teaser trailer here.)

First Look: Jeff Bridges Returns in TRON Legacy


Nearly three decades after finding himself trapped within a computer world, returns to do it all over again.

In 2010, Disney will present TRON Legacy, a follow-up to the 1982 sci-fi adventure. (You can see the classic trailer after the jump.) The sequel will feature Sean Flynn (actor Garrett Hedlund), the son of Bridge’s programmer character (Kevin Flynn). Years after his father goes missing, Sean enters the virtual reality world in a search for his dad.
