X-Files Movie Name Revealed

X-FilesLast month, lucky attendees of the Paley Festival got a sneak peek of the new movie.  (You can get your own shaky view of that trailer here.)  Now we finally know what to call this highly-anticipated sequel: The X-Files: I Want to Believe.

Detail-oriented fans who can remember that far back (the series ended six years ago) may recognize that ‘Believe’ phrase from a poster in Mulder’s office.

In an interview with the AP, show creator explained the significance behind the title.  “It’s a story that involves the difficulties in mediating faith and science. `I Want to Believe.’ It really does suggest Mulder’s struggle with his faith.”

Those (like me) who couldn’t remember that slogan - or haven’t been introduced to the series at all - should not worry.  The movie was designed to serve as a stand-alone feature that will supposedly “satisfy everyone.”

Be ready for the mysteries to unfold this July 25.

New X-Files Trailer

We apologize for the less-than-perfect quality—the clip was shot by a die-hard fan last night at the Paley Festival in Los Angeles.  The trailer was introduced by creator Chris Carter himself.

Be prepared to start believing again when returns on July 25.

Racier Trailers Coming to Theaters

red band trailer

If you purchase a ticket at a Regal Cinemas theater anytime soon, you may see something new on your movie screen:  a red band trailer.

These - intended for ‘restricted audiences’ only - would contain scenes viewable at R, NC-17 or unrated films.  They would be mixed in with the normal green band previews that ‘have been approved for all audiences’ by the MPAA.

Although clips with more adult matter - such as crude and sexual content - are not new to the internet, theater chains have been wary of playing them fearing they’d be viewed by the wrong demographic.

Michel Gondry remakes trailer for Be Kind Rewind in the style of Be Kind Rewind

Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: New Line, Comedy, Trailers,

continues to make it difficult to argue that he is a cinematic mastermind. In the video above, you will find a trailer by Gondry that is a remake of the official trailer for . The remake is done in the style of the movie. So, this is a remake of a trailer about a movie about a couple of guys who have to remake movies themselves, done by two guys who have to remake the trailer for the movie themselves. I don’t even know if I am making sense anymore, but check the video, as it is the epitome of awesomeness.

Yann Samuel Directs My Sassy Girl Remake

My Sassy Girl Remake

We’re a bundle of mixed emotions about this one. If you’re not familiar with him, is the one-time directing wonder that was responsible for Love me if you Dare, or Jeux d’Enfants as it was released in its native France.  He just wrapped up the production on a new American film called My Sassy Girl. Now, the part of us that fell head-first for Love me if you Dare and it’s dark, dysfunctional brand of romance wants to get incredibly revved up for Samuel’s second film, doubly because it’ll be in English, but My Sassy Girl isn’t an original script, it’s a remake of a Korean gem that does not beg remaking.

The remake, along with the adaptation and the sequel are pet peeves of mine, and they seem to be all that are coming out of Hollywood right now.  My Sassy Girl is an autobiographical Korean romantic comedy about a boy who falls for an abusive, alcoholic bombshell and the hilarity that ensues. Somehow, we have a feeling they didn’t just translate it into English and cast love m as the jolly drunk.  No, no, American audiences would never go for that.  My fear is that they’ve turned the character into a sorority-type party girl whose obsessive behavior has been toned way down into maybe some clumsy injuries to her beau.

The Preview Review: May 28 – June 1, 2007

MPAA Preview

This is the very first edition of The Preview Review.  Here at FilmCrunch, we are tired of being deceived by flawless movie trailers for films that, in the end, are better left out of theaters and away from audiences.  In other words, the best-looking trailers often beget the worst-made films.  This weekly exposé will attempt to flush out those elements that make good previews go bad, and hopefully we’ll uncover a few coming attractions worth a second look.
