Casting Corner: Tobey Maguire, Fergie, Michael Vartan

Tobey Maguire

Here’s a quick look at some of the casting announcements made recently:

While the Spider-Man execs keep themselves busy with talk about a fourth installment, Tobey Maguire is preparing to act in less-flashy fare.

For his next project, Maguire will reteam with director Gary Ross for another period piece. (The two previously worked together on both Pleasantville and Seabiscuit.) In The Crusaders, Tobey will play Jack Greenberg, a lawyer who was involved in 1954’s landmark Brown v. Board of Education case.

The film, an adaptation of Greenberg’s actual memoirs, will be written by Danny Strong - a recent nominee for his work on HBO’s Recount.

Casting Corner: Ed Helms, Kate Hudson, Woody Harrelson

Ed Helms

Here’s a quick look at some of the casting announcements made recently:

Assuming negotiations end well, will be temporarily setting aside his stapler to star in a new Todd Phillips (School for Scoundrels) film. The role would be The Office‘s star first lead in a motion picture.

In Hangover, Helms and Bradley Cooper (Alias) will play two of three friends who lose a groom-to-be during a Vegas bachelor party-outing. No actor has yet been cast as the third bud.

Although a release date hasn’t been announced, the comedy is currently entering pre-production. In the meantime, fans of Helms should hurry up to see before it disappears from theaters.
