Box Office Breakdown: Ticket Buyers Escape to Madagascar 2

Madagascar 2

Move over High School Musical 3. Another family-friendly movie is taking over.

This past weekend, stormed into theaters in a big way. The animated sequel took in a whopping $63.1 million, making it second biggest debuter this year. (The Dark Knight pulled in $75.2 million in July.) The film - which topped its 2005 predecessor by $2.1 million - also had the 7th best opening for a cartoon ever.

In other noteworthy news, last week’s #2 was pushed aside for another R-rated comedy. , starring Paul Rudd and Seann William Scott, surpassed expectations to rake in an impressive $19.2 million. That amount nearly doubled what Zack and Miri - this week’s #5 - earned during its first three days. Meanwhile, a movie that was critically-panned did fairly well in its limited release. - the wannabe cult musical featuring Paris Hilton - averaged $6,711 over 8 theaters. That’s a number most of the movies in the Top Ten couldn’t match.

No Rave Reviews for Hilton’s Repo!

The press for Repo! The Genetic Opera has been going strong for a long, long time now…and I have to be honest in saying that I never was sold on the idea. Set in the year 2056, the movie illustrates a scary world where one company controls all organ transplants and high-end plastic surgery. Easy financing leads to some of the most gruesome repossessions you could imagine - hence, the title. The movie’s biggest claims to fame have always been a cult-like appeal and the name , who was attached to the project early.

Did I mention it’s also a musical? But if you’re expecting something sort of oddball and fun like The Rocky Horror Picture Show, or something dark and grim like Sweeny Todd, you could be taken by surprise. Reviews for the movie are in…and no one seems to be raving for or Miss Hilton, either.

In Theaters this Weekend: November 7, 2008

Soul Men

Here are some possible suggestions for your upcoming weekend:

Another Clip of Paris Hilton in Repo!

In light of Paris Hilton’s recent campaign ad (and her amazing ability to supposedly memorize lines), I could see why some may have temporarily forgotten her acting track record. (Would anyone like to review her appearance on My Name is Earl?)

But, thankfully, we now have a new clip from her upcoming movie - Repo! The Genetic Opera - to give us a painful reminder.

Who knew this movie could possibly look any worse than it did before?

You can try finding Repo! in a theater somewhere this November 7th.

Listen to Paris Hilton Sing in Repo!

Even though we showed you a trailer for earlier this month, we know this is what you’ve really been waiting for.

Have you been wondering if Paris Hilton’s vocals could stretch beyond ‘Stars Are Blind’ territory? Were you curious to know how limited her dancing skills were? Well - in this new clip, you have your chance to find out.

Repo! The Genetic Opera blares into theaters on November 7th.

Trailer for Repo! The Genetic Opera

What do Paul Sorvino, Anthony Head (Buffy the Vampire Slayer) and Sarah Brightman (The Phantom of the Opera) all have in common? They’re all co-starring in a film.

Months ago, we told you about - a musical featuring an appearance from the socialite. Now we’re finally getting our first glimpse of this strange production.

Let us know your first impression of Repo. If you hadn’t known Hilton was involved, would you be willing to give the movie a chance?

Is Paris Hilton Getting Cold?

Paris HiltonWhen went to jail, it become the only media story in the entire world. For a while there, the heiress couldn’t make a single move without finding flashbulbs in her face. But Miss Hilton loves the attention, and she often makes herself available for photo-ops. Maybe…too much?

Hilton’s latest film project, , actually opened this weekend. I know with all the news of the writers strike and the rumors of a second Hannah Montana movie it’s hard to keep up with Hilton’s every move, but the flick came to theaters Feb. 8. Don’t worry - a lot of other people didn’t notice, either. The film, to date, has grossed a disappointing $27,696, which probably doesn’t even put a dent in Hilton’s movie salary.

Paris Hilton Not a Party Girl Anymore

Paris HiltonStill shaken up from her short stint in jail (those twenty-three days really got to her), is determined to shed her party girl image. This new life direction for the hotel heiress would be a lot easier to believe if she would actually stop going to parties (somebody please give Miss Hilton a clue).

In the October 22 edition of Newsweek, Hilton says “I want to leave a mark on the world.”  Don’t worry, Paris…you already have. Hilton will be documenting her highly-publicized visit to Rwanda, in hopes of turning the footage into a film.  Awwww…it really sounds as though she has the interests of others in her heart. I wonder—who do you think will be profiting from this film?

Obviously not part of her new caring efforts, Hilton is also currently working on the movie Repo, an odd-sounding thriller about transplanted organs…set to music.
