Paris Hilton Escapes Pay-Out

Paris Hilton was not at fault for her film-flopping, a court has ruled.
The socialite was sued by Worldwide Entertainment Group for allegedly breaching her contractual commitments for movie National Lampoon’s Pledge This!, but a Miami judge has ruled she did her best to promote it, stating the movie was “hardly destined for critical acclaim.”
District Judge Federico Moreno said:
“Any causal connection between Ms. Hilton’s alleged breaches and the financial ruin of the film are wholly speculative. The movie flopped because the film’s inexperienced producers hastily cobbled together a wholly inadequate marketing plan. They sent scattershot requests to their principal star in the hope she could find time to promote a sinking ship.”
While Paris won’t have to pay the $8.3 million damages the producers were asking for, she may have to return the $1 million fee she was given for the film. A receiver representing the producers has been given until August 26 to submit arguments as to why the blonde star should pay back the sum.
Michael Weinsten, Paris’ lawyer, said in a statement following the ruling: “We are grateful for the judge’s time and thoughtful consideration of the issues in this case.”

Box Office Breakdown: Ticket Buyers Escape to Madagascar 2
Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: DreamWorks, Disney, Fox Searchlight, MGM, Lionsgate, Paramount, Universal, Weinstein Company, Adaptation, Animation, Drama, Family, Horror, Music, Musicals, Period, Romance, Sequels, Comedy, Thrillers, Box Office, Lists,
Move over High School Musical 3. Another family-friendly movie is taking over.
This past weekend, Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa stormed into theaters in a big way. The animated sequel took in a whopping $63.1 million, making it second biggest debuter this year. (The Dark Knight pulled in $75.2 million in July.) The film - which topped its 2005 predecessor by $2.1 million - also had the 7th best opening for a cartoon ever.
In other noteworthy news, last week’s #2 was pushed aside for another R-rated comedy. Role Models, starring Paul Rudd and Seann William Scott, surpassed expectations to rake in an impressive $19.2 million. That amount nearly doubled what Zack and Miri - this week’s #5 - earned during its first three days. Meanwhile, a movie that was critically-panned did fairly well in its limited release. Repo! The Genetic Opera - the wannabe cult musical featuring Paris Hilton - averaged $6,711 over 8 theaters. That’s a number most of the movies in the Top Ten couldn’t match.

No Rave Reviews for Hilton’s Repo!
Posted by K.C. Morgan Categories: Lionsgate, Horror, Musicals, Science Fiction, Filmmaking, New Releases,
The press for Repo! The Genetic Opera has been going strong for a long, long time now…and I have to be honest in saying that I never was sold on the idea. Set in the year 2056, the movie illustrates a scary world where one company controls all organ transplants and high-end plastic surgery. Easy financing leads to some of the most gruesome repossessions you could imagine - hence, the title. The movie’s biggest claims to fame have always been a cult-like appeal and the name Paris Hilton, who was attached to the project early.
Did I mention it’s also a musical? But if you’re expecting something sort of oddball and fun like The Rocky Horror Picture Show, or something dark and grim like Sweeny Todd, you could be taken by surprise. Reviews for the movie are in…and no one seems to be raving for Repo! or Miss Hilton, either.

Paris Hilton Sued for Lack of Promotion
Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Comedy, Celeb News, Celebrity Controversy,
Funny. I never thought the phrases “Paris Hilton” and “lack of publicity” could ever be used in the same sentence.
A lawsuit filed Tuesday in Miami’s District Court claims Paris Hilton failed to live up to her contractual obligations. The heiress, who received an acting and an executive producer credit for National Lampoon’s Pledge This!, reportedly dropped the ball when it came to the film’s marketing.
According to Worldwide Entertainment Group Inc., the company is owed $75,000 because Hilton did not provide “reasonable promotion and publicity” for the 2006 sorority movie.
Now, given that Paris Hilton’s most recent film (The Hottie & the Nottie) failed despite her talk show appearances - what kind of numbers were the Pledge This! producers expecting to get?

Another Clip of Paris Hilton in Repo!
Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Adaptation, Musicals, Science Fiction, Trailers,
In light of Paris Hilton’s recent campaign ad (and her amazing ability to supposedly memorize lines), I could see why some may have temporarily forgotten her acting track record. (Would anyone like to review her appearance on My Name is Earl?)
But, thankfully, we now have a new clip from her upcoming movie - Repo! The Genetic Opera - to give us a painful reminder.
Who knew this movie could possibly look any worse than it did before?
You can try finding Repo! in a theater somewhere this November 7th.
Listen to Paris Hilton Sing in Repo!

Even though we showed you a trailer for Repo! The Genetic Opera earlier this month, we know this is what you’ve really been waiting for.
Have you been wondering if Paris Hilton’s vocals could stretch beyond ‘Stars Are Blind’ territory? Were you curious to know how limited her dancing skills were? Well - in this new clip, you have your chance to find out.
Repo! The Genetic Opera blares into theaters on November 7th.
