The third time was a charm for Sandra Bullock.
After two weeks of second place finishes, The Blind Side emerged from New Moon‘s shadow to take sole possession of first place. The movie, which added another $20 million to its $100+ million total, has now given Bullock her second chart topper of the year. (And, no—All About Steve is not the other film I was referring to.)
Despite several new wide release entries, the football players and the vampires strongly defended their hold on the top two spots. Brothers - starring Tobey Maguire, Jake Gyllenhaal and Natalie Portman - came in third place with only a $9.5 million take. Meanwhile, Everybody’s Fine with Robert De Niro and Drew Barrymore did a less than fine $3.8 million.

Getting Into Character: Kristen Stewart Strips Down
Posted by Robin Paulson Categories: Drama, Independent, Casting, Celeb News, Celebrity Gossip, Upcoming Releases,
While her
co-star Robert Pattinson is starring in another star-crossed love story called Remember Me, Kristen Stewart is stripping down opposite James Gandolfini in Welcome to the Rileys.
While the paparazzi managed to snap up some pictures of her on set a few months ago, images of a considerably less-clothed KStew have been released (more after the jump). Stewart plays the role of Mallory, a 16 year-old stripper who gets caught in the middle of one man’s (Gandolfini) personal journey to recovering from the death of his daughter.
The independent drama is scheduled to debut at the Sundance Film Festival this January. No word yet as to a theatrical release date.

Box Office Breakdown: New Moon Covers Its Blind Side

What looked like a possible upset early in the game ended in another win for New Moon. Although the film pulled in another $42.9 million over the holiday weekend, the Twilight sequel dropped approximately 70% from its first frame and escaped second place by a mere $2.8 million.
The vampires were given a run for their box office dollars by The Blind Side, the sports drama starring Sandra Bullock. Unlike Moon, the heartwarming film actually saw improvement in its second week. The entry also managed to hold off the Chris Weitz-helmed project on Thanksgiving Day.

Blind Side Eclipses New Moon on Thanksgiving
Posted by Robin Paulson Categories: Action, Adaptation, Drama, Romance, Science Fiction, Sequels, Thrillers, Box Office, Celebrity Gossip, New Releases, Rumors,
Despite predicted dominance at the box office this Thanksgiving weekend, Twi-hards seemed to be too busy stuffing their faces with food to keep up with movie-goers set to see Sandra Bullock‘s football drama The Blind Side.
Raking in $9.5 million, The Blind Side rushed ahead (barely) of New Moon, which received $9.2 million—raising its cumulative total to $188.4 million.
Will this keep up the rest of the holiday weekend? While I certainly do not possess Alice Cullen’s psychic abilities, I’ve surmised ten reasons as to why the latest installment of The Twilight Saga could be losing its box office grip.

After months of endless promotion, New Moon finally opened this weekend to monster-sized numbers. But how exactly did the film compare to the other theatrical giants?
- Despite earning over $142 million since midnight Thursday, the adaptation’s debut still falls behind The Dark Knight ($158.4) and Spider-Man 3 ($151.1 million).
- The sequel did, though, beat Knight for the best first day open ($72.7 compared to $67.2 million).
- It had the largest midnight opening ($26.3 million) to date. (Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince grossed $22.2 million.)
- Moon also topped Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire‘s 2005 November debut ($102.7 million).

Quote of the Day: Chris Weitz on Kissing Scenes
Posted by Robin Paulson Categories: Adaptation, Drama, Romance, Sequels, Thrillers, Celeb News, Celebrity Gossip, Filmmaking, Upcoming Releases,
“It’s not like when they’re about to kiss, I’m leaning in and saying, just off camera, ‘Tender, tender!’ or anything like that. I just let them do their thing. I think it would be creepy and inappropriate for me to advise them how to kiss one another or what it’s like to be young in love. I’m 40 years old. I’m not going to Polanski out on them.”
- New Moon director Chris Weitz on directing on-screen (also, perhaps, off-screen?) lovers Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson.

Kristen Stewart Set to Play Prostitute in New Film
Posted by Robin Paulson Categories: Drama, Celeb News, Filmmaking, Upcoming Releases,
Kristen Stewart will be baring it all in her upcoming independent drama, Welcome to the Rileys.
A far cry from the innocent Bella Swan, the chaste Twilight character who made her famous, Stewart will be playing opposite James Gandolfini as a young lap dancer and prostitute.
“It’s an independent movie that nobody would normally see and now it’s like, ‘Oh, let’s go see Bella in this stripper movie; it’ll be crazy!’” said the 19-year-old actress.
Of Gandolfini, Stewart lauds the experience she gained from working on the film:
“Working with James Gandolfini and Melissa Leo, who is just incredible, was the most fruitful life-changing experience on a movie that I’ve ever had. It was just the hardest subject matter I’ve ever had to deal with — I play a very broken young girl who is a runaway. She’s a street kid. She’s working in a strip club and James Gandolfini’s character is just as dead inside as she is — and they wake each other up.”
No official release dates have been announced for the film.

Getting Into Character: Kristen Stewart Rocks It Out as Joan Jett
Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Biopics, Musicals, Period, Casting, Celeb News, Upcoming Releases,
And you thought Robert Pattinson’s hair was shaggy.
For her next film, Twilight‘s Kristen Stewart will be steering away from vampire fantasy for a little rock ‘n roll reality. In The Runaways, the 19-year-old will channel Joan Jett, a former member of the ‘70s band of the same name. Stewart’s New Moon co-star, Dakota Fanning, will join her as Cherie Currie, the female group’s lead singer.
No release date has yet been announced for the biopic.
