Even though the buzz for Green Lantern fizzled at the reveal of its rather disappointing full-length trailer, Ryan Reynold's abs the superhero flick managed to fight off last week's box office winner, Super 8.
The DC comic book adaptation scored $53 million at the box office in its first week, while the J.J. Abrams and Steven Spielberg project Super 8 managed to finish second -- down from last week's top spot -- at $21.2 million . Jim Carrey's family comedy Mr. Popper's Penguins debuted in third place raking in $18.2 million, pushing last week's second place film X-Men: First Class -- the X-Men prequel starring James Mcavoy and Michael Fassbender -- to fourth with $11.5 million.

Blake Lively Expects to Be in Future Green Lantern Films
Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Warner Bros, Action, Adaptation, Adventure, Science Fiction, Casting, Celeb News, Celebrity Gossip, Upcoming Releases,
Gossip Girl Blake Lively is "confident" she will appear in more Green Lantern movies.
The 23-year-old actress portrays Carol Ferris in the forthcoming comic book film and is hopeful to get the chance to play the character, and her villainous alter ego Star Sapphire again in the future.
"Carol is a very strong woman. I really appreciated not being the damsel in distress. She has this relationship with Hal Jordan (Ryan Reynolds), they're each other's first love. "If we did a few more films, I'm pretty confident Star Sapphire would show up."
Blake was asked to audition for the movie after impressing studio bosses with her performance in The Town and she was pleased to be recognized for her acting abilities rather than her appearance. "I made The Town with Warner Bros. and they said to me, 'We want you to look at Green Lantern.' It was really nice that this was a studio that wasn't looking for some girl to have her legs greased up and her boobs out and that's all that mattered."
Green Lantern Trailer: Heavy on Ryan Reynolds, Not Plot

We have no idea who the bad guy is, which city was used for the setting or who the hell else is in the cast -- but we do know this: Ryan Reynolds is the central theme of this Green Lantern trailer.
Actually, scratch the third part. We also know that Blake Lively is in the flick. Her face is seen for a brief moment (don’t blink) somewhere in the middle of this Reynolds showcase. We’re hearing that Lively plays the love interest to Reynold’s non-superhero persona.
Watch the entire trailer to learn more about rings of power and Ryan Reynold’s abs.

Blake Lively Competing for Green Lantern Role
Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Warner Bros, Action, Adaptation, Thrillers, Casting, Celeb News, Celebrity Gossip, Upcoming Releases,
Gossip Girl actress Blake Lively is hoping to star in the comic book adaptation of Green Lantern.
The 22-year-old is vying to play the love interest of character Hal Jordan (Ryan Reynolds). However, Blake reportedly faces stiff competition for the part as Jennifer Garner, Diane Kruger and Eva Green are also in the running.
“Blake would be amazing in this role. She has a busy 2010 promoting The Town, but she would love to play a part in a superhero film,” a source said.
Martin Campbell, who previously worked on Casino Royale, is to direct the movie, leading some to speculate that former Bond girl Green may be his choice for the role.
Green Lantern tells the story of an ordinary man chosen by an alien to receive an energy ring that can be used to protect the planet. Filming is due to begin in 2010, in time for a June 17, 2011 release date.
Ryan Reynolds Embraces His Inner Woman

In an effort to expand his acting range, Ryan Reynolds will dress as a woman in his next movie.
The X-Men Origins: Wolverine actor is set to take on the lead role in an as-yet untitled movie which will see his character disguise himself in drag in order to befriend his ex-girlfriend in a bid to win her back.
Ryan, who will next shoot superhero movie The Green Lantern, will also serve as executive producer on the project, which does not yet have a director.
The script is being penned by Wall Street 2 writer Allan Loeb. No further casting information has been given.
In addition to the cross-dressing caper, it was recently reported that Ryan is set to take over from Tom Cruise in Motorcade after the Mission Impossible star dropped out of the project to appear in Wichita. The action thriller sees the actor playing a disgraced Secret Service agent who happens to be in the wrong place at the right time when the US president is kidnapped in New York.
Warner Bros. Casts Ryan Reynolds as Green Lantern
Posted by Robin Paulson Categories: Warner Bros, Action, Adaptation, Thrillers, Casting, Upcoming Releases,
For what seemed like decades, Warner Bros. had been searching for the star of their latest comic book adaptation, Green Lantern. They finally announced yesterday that they would be picking The Proposal star Ryan Reynolds, who beat out The Hangover‘s Bradley Cooper, Justin Timberlake, and Jared Leto.
He also beat out my beloved Nathan Fillion, whom fans have shown support for through homemade trailers. Of course, unfortunately studios tend to pick the bigger names over those who are more capable and suitable for the role. I mean we’re talking about Ryan Reynolds, the current king of romantic comedies who somehow conned Scarlett Johansson into marrying him (and did so by asking via text message). And as such, if he’s not in a romantic comedy, he’s always playing a wise-cracking smart-ass with little or no dynamic.
I have to give credit where credit is due, and unfortunately he does get kudos for scoring roles as both Marvel and DC superheroes—he’s so far the first and only.
He’ll be playing the Silver Age version of the Green Lantern, test pilot Hal Jordan. The film is expected to hit theaters December 2010.
